Stripers Eating All The Bugs From Kellen O’Maley–Connemara Bay Charters

image

Hey Joey,

Just shooting you an email regarding what could be one of the biggest threats to lobsters. Almost every striper we catch charter fishing on my fathers boat, The Connemara Bay, it is loaded up with juvenile bugs. We caught one the other day that had 10 lobsters in it! I attached the picture which includes the Bass along with the 10 victims. lob

The last time we were on your page was from the blue lobster we had a few years back that we donated to the heritage center.

Did You Get Your Sista Felicia Iced Tea At The Sidewalk Bazaar or Farmers Market Yesterday? Don’t be The Dope That Misses Out! Right In Front Of Sugar Mags Today- Get Some!

From what I understand the blue mason jars were all the rage, people just throwing haymakers trying to get to the front of the line to make sure they got theirs.

And who could blame them?  When the sun is blazin there’s nothing you want more than to drink some ice cold special recipe Sista Felicia’s iced tea out of a aqua blue mason jar dripping with condensation from the icy cold goodness inside.

No brainer city right there.

All the cool kids are rockin the blue mason jars.  Question is, are you?

Lowell Peabody submits-
North Shore Folklore Theatre Company a Maritime Mystery

Joey,
At the Sidewalk Bazaar today I spoke with Henry Allen and David Wesson who said they are working on a new children’s stage production for their Summer Stock Theatre Club taking place at the Cape Ann YMCA. They say they are in need of young actors between the ages of 6-12 and will be taking place from August 5 through the 16th. They hope Good Morning Gloucester can help get the word out to aspiring actors! The story is a maritime mystery using all things Gloucester – places, names, old sea stories, etc More information is available at (978) 283-0470 Sounds like fun and from the energy of these actors it will be!

Ran across GMG contributors Charlie Carroll and David Cox today at the Sidewalk Bazaar. Lord I am hoping they were really only comparing the difference of their lens sizes…

You know what they say about these guys with the big lenses right?  Overcompensating for a lack of size somewhere else? Winking smile

NOAA announces fishery grant opportunity
under Saltonstall-Kennedy

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) announced of a new federal grant opportunity through the FY 2013 Saltonstall-Kennedy Program.  The following statement was released by the office of United States Senator Elizabeth Warren:

WASHINGTON – August 1, 2013 – United States Senator Elizabeth Warren today applauded the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) announcement of a new federal grant opportunity through the FY 2013 Saltonstall-Kennedy Program, which can benefit the fishing industry in Massachusetts.

Senator Warren had previously urged NOAA’s Acting Administrator Dr. Kathryn D. Sullivan to provide Saltonstall-Kennedy funding for these grants, and she has worked with Senate Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) to increase the Saltonstall-Kennedy grants for FY 2014.
“NOAA’s announcement of new grant opportunities through Saltonstall-Kennedy is great news for Massachusetts’ fishing communities,” said Senator Warren. “I’m pleased NOAA is making this grant solicitation, which is an excellent chance for our ports to secure funding that will help the fishing industry innovate and modernize for the future.”
NOAA anticipates awarding between $5-$10 million in competitive grants focused on fisheries research and development projects, including cooperative research projects with industry. The grant announcement may be viewed here.

GMG Local Twitterati Report 8/1/13

News from GEF

Hi, Joey,

Gloucester Education Foundation sent 40 Gloucester students in grades 5-7 to the MIT campus in Cambridge a few weeks ago for the annual Summer Engineering Adventure. GEF has been sponsoring this program in conjunction with the Gloucester Public School District and MIT for several years. It gives our students the opportunity to experience real-life science and engineering in action. During the week-long program, students learned about light waves and holograms; designing and programming a 30-second video game; building strong bridges using just a few pieces of paper and some plastic cups and applying principles of geometry; programming LEGO Mindstorms robots; programming a photobot—a light-sensing robot; and designing, building and testing mechanisms for ship propulsion.

Students also toured the MIT campus and learned about educational opportunities in science and engineering and what life is like for students on a large urban campus.

Here are a few photos taken during the week.
