FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
WHEN: MAY 20, 2:00 – 4:00 pm Educational discussion

BACKGROUND: Come meet the Kangal dog, one of the oldest breeds in the world. Rare in the USA, they have centuries of guardianship of livestock, villages and people in Turkey. Guarding and protecting out of love, not aggression. Learn about the important roles they serve in their homeland and here, and what it means to be a steward to this rare breed of dog, the Kangal Dog of Turkey.
Interviews available with Kangal owners on event weekend.
TWO TRUE KANGAL TAILS:
Meet Bekci and Heidi, a service /mobility dog for a retired veterinarian who lives with Multiple Sclerosis; Bekci supports and travels with her everywhere, even airplanes! Bekçi is 6 years old and has been with Heidi since a puppy. He has always had a special air of confidence and serenity. Although Heidi has other livestock guardian dogs that work with her goats and Mustang horses, it was evident early that Bekci was destined for a different life than the goat-herding guardian they envisioned. Heidi and Bekci will be at the Kangal Dog Show for visitors to meet!
Heidi and Bekci arrive at the airport after one of their frequent trips.
For the Love of God. In a remote corner of the desert southwest, a women’s monastery resides amidst the local wildlife population that includes bobcats, coyotes, rattlesnakes and the occasional mountain lion and bear. When the monastery first relocated and opened to the public, the sisters knew they needed a serious and effective warning and protection system. Research lead them to the Kangal Dog and thus began a journey that has given them new generations from the original male/female pair of Kangal Dogs who watched over them with such care. They have proved to excel as guardians for the monastery as they patrol the grounds at night and accompany the nuns during their daily tasks. Because the sisters socialize their Kangals early with people and animals, they have never had a bad experience or worry. The bond and intuition the dogs demonstrate – with people and animals – is remarkable to see. A favorite saying is “our dogs are Kangals first and dogs second,” such is their unique breed characteristics and depth of personality!

On the grounds of a monastery in the desert southwest, Kangals watch over two- and four-legged creatures of God.
OTHER DOG TREATS:
⦁ A Kangal dog is designated as a national treasure in Turkey
⦁ Only a Turkish citizen can take them out of the country legally
⦁ Less than 800 Kangal dogs exist in the U.S.
⦁ While many, more familiar, breeds have been heavily cross-bred over the years, the Kangal remains very close to its original breed characteristics.
About the Kangal Dog Club of America
The Kangal Dog Club of America is the national parent club for the UKC and the only club in North America dedicated to the breed. http://www.kangaldogamerica.com

Hello Joey,
I just discovered your website via a friend who was born in Gloucester and lived in Manchester until moving to Denver more than 40 years ago. He posted on his facebook page your photos of Ten Pound Island from the 1920s. I lived in Manchester for one year in high school and have lived on the North Shore for 50 years. I am going to have to spend some time on your website, it looks very interesting.
I think you would be very interested in my website and my just released ebook, “Diving Cape Ann and Boston’s North Shore.” http://www.liquidspacepublishing.com/
I have made hundreds of scuba dives in Gloucester with camera in hand over the last 40 years and have hundreds of undersea and surface photos some of which are posted on my website.
Thanks for your time.

Hi Joey–
A friend named Glen owns this USCG motor life boat. https://tugster.wordpress.com/2015/12/24/1934-uscg-motor-lifeboat/ He’s elderly and plans to donate it to the San Francisco Maritime NH Park once he completes one more trip on her this coming summer. When he saw this MLB photo over near Adventure and the Gloucester Maritime Center, he became quite excited. Would you have any idea who owns it and how Glen could get in touch with the owner.
Hope you can help . . .
Cheers
Will

Tim Breaks down the crazy amount of State and Federal Tax credits and SREC’s available which has Solar paying for itself within 3 or 4 years and after that actually puts money in your pocket.
Solar is now at a point where not only does it make financial sense, it’s actually one of the best investments you can make, paying you back a return!
Tim Graduated from Gloucester High School in 1971 where he was the captain of the football team and the company that he owns Cazeault Solar and Home did roughly 80 installs on the North Shore (a majority of which were on Cape Ann) last year alone.
Call to talk to Tim at 978-281-4625 He’s local and he’s a straight shooter.

We are getting some good press coverage on 7News tonight, tomorrow and Saturday. Their What’s Cooking Segment has their reporter (Sarah French) in the Revere Ninety Nine with Charlie and Chef George. She actually goes into the kitchen with Chef George to make the Simple Seasoned Fresh Haddock. We haven’t seen the edited piece yet, but Charlie stressed the fact that it is a Gloucester product and that we have worked closely with our partners in Gloucester to bring a local product to our tables. Chef George reinforced that throughout the preparation of the dish. Should be great!
Looking forward to the segments. Here are the air dates/times for the next three days:
– Thursday, 4/28 at 10pm on the CW56 Station
– Friday, 4/29 at 9am, 12pm and 4pmon WHDH-TV Channel 7 News
– Saturday, 4/30 – throughout the day on weekend showings of news
– Replays will also be available on the WHDH website
