YET ANOTHER GLOUCESTER BUSINESS GOES SOLAR

Capt. Bill & Sons Whale Watching and Cape Ann Oil Goes Solar!!!

“I felt it was important to go solar for a number of reasons. As Melissa and I are parents we believed it was important to protect the environment for future of our children. Also, our whale watching business is directly involved with the wonders of Nature and it felt like the right thing to do.

With these key points and the incentives provided to us by the State and Federal government it made the decision easy” “Great to work with Tim and the Cazeault Solar Team”

Mark Cunningham – owner Capt. Bill and Sons Whale Watch and Cape Ann Oil

“ Mark and Melissa were great to work with. They join a partnership with the hundreds of Cape Ann residents and businesses who have worked with us to assist them in saving money and making money with the great investment of solar. And helping the future of our environment”

Complementary, Alternative, or Integrative Healthcare ….

Karen Pischke BSN, RN's avatarCape Ann Wellness

Different Approaches to Healthcare: Complementary, Alternative, Integrative. What’s in a Name?

Western Medicine* – System in which medical doctors and other healthcare professional (nurses, pharmacists, therapist) treat symptoms and diseases using drugs, radiation or surgery. (*also referred to as allopathic, conventional, and mainstream)

The U.S. National Centers for Integrative Health Care (NCCIH)  generally uses the term “complementary health approaches” when discussing practices and products of non-mainstream origin, and “integrative health” when talking about incorporating complementary approaches into mainstream health care.

Understanding Integrative Healthcare is vital for health practitioners in knowing more about what patients are seeking regarding their healthcare, self-care, and in knowing the evidence on safety and efficacy as the basis for guiding patients. This is the essence of the integrative healthcare practice and research model.

Natural Does Not Mean Safe. Talk to Your Physician. Patients are encouraged to report use of natural products and complementary therapies…

Northern Gannet rescue on Good Harbor Beach update?

Hi Joey,

Yesterday (Wednesday 7/12), there was a beautiful Northern Gannet sitting right at the water line, kind of halfway between boardwalk #1 and the Witham St end of Good Harbor, where I was sitting.  It was clearly in distress, it lifted its head a few times, and tried to stand up, but it was in obvious need of help.  The lifeguards kept people away from it, so as not to stress it out, and called for help.  Gloucester Police Animal Control came and made a rescue of the bird at about 3:30, carrying it off to their van, telling it they were taking it off to the vet.  (I was so impressed by how humanely they were treating the poor thing, talking to it in calm, reassuring voices, etc.)

I am wondering if anyone has any kind of update about how the bird is doing.

I am wondering if it is suffering from the same mysterious disease that has taken the life of 100+ Northern Gannets on the Cape.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/2017/06/10/mysterious-ailment-killing-northern-gannets-cape/WrVq9qjyUhaEIcRTs9orOO/story.html

Have they taken it off to the New England Wildlife Center?

Is this the first of the Northern Gannets suffering from this mysterious illness to turn up in Gloucester?

Any idea?

Thanks,

Ann Rittenburg

Friday 7/14 GAAC Meeting Program Note: The Lives of Famous Stars

Michael Deneen's avatarCape Ann Community

blogpic

At the July 14 meeting of the Gloucester Area Astronomy Club, 8:00 pm at the Lanesville Community Center, Phil Orbanes will reveal some indecorous truths about a dozen famous stars and their lifestyles, from Aldebaran to Sol, from the intemperate “live fast and die young” crowd to the more introspective and generally cool-headed class M red dwarves, whom, for example, you would be less likely to meet in a bar.

In a colorful presentation, and with a wink and a nod, Phil will let us know the ways in which astronomy’s HR diagram of stellar life cycles can be explained by the sidewalk outside Grauman’s Chinese Theater, and which star would show up where, from Barnard’s Star to the Dog Star.

Phil takes as his point of departure a passage from GAACster Bill Waller’s The Milky Way: An Insider’s Guide, where we learn that “[like] snowflakes — and people…
