The Cape Ann Artisans are pleased to join the North Shore Arts Association (NSAA) for its Annual Holiday Market alongside its two final shows of the season prior to their winter hiatus. The show takes place for three days, Nov 6-8. While NSAA hosts SYNERGY and a New Members Show, eight of the Artisans will display their work and be there to greet holiday shoppers! Many Cape Ann Artisan Open Studio followers have enjoyed seeing the group “under one roof” with new items thoughtfully curated for the gift-giving season. Due to the success last year, the show has been extended to three days.
Synergy will host 58 artists and a range of artworks, each in their own windows of wall space throughout the venue. Upstairs, in the center of the room, the Artisans will create a stand-alone marketplace with artisans available to answer questions, talk about their work, and help you find the perfect holiday gift.
All are welcome! North Shore Arts Association is located at 11 Pirates Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930. For more information about events please call (978) 283-1857 or email arts@nsarts.org. Visiting hours are Tuesday – Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM, Sundays 12 – 4 PM, and closed on Mondays.

Anyone curious about the trees and plants that fill our Dogtown woods is invited to join the free guided Tree and Woody Plant Identification Walk on Saturday, November 7, from 9 to 11 a.m., starting at the Plum Cove Elementary School parking lot, 15 Hickory St. in Gloucester.
Led by tree and shrub preservationist Chris Wood of Wood Arboricultural Consulting and Heirloom Tree & Shrub Care, this two-hour Walk & Talk will introduce us to the various woody plants found throughout the Dogtown and the greater Gloucester landscape.
The walk will explore both native and invasive species, including trees, shrubs, and woody vines, with a focus on practical skills for recognizing plants in the field.
Chris is an ISA-certified arborist, an ASCA-registered consulting arborist and earned bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in forestry conservation and conservation biology.
We will learn how to identify woody plants by examining key characteristics such as bark, buds, leaves, branching patterns, growth habits, and other field marks that can help distinguish species throughout the seasons. Along the way, Chris will share insights into the ecology, habitat, and role of these plants in the local environment.
The walk offers an opportunity to develop a closer understanding of our natural landscape while learning skills that can be applied year-round in backyards, gardens, parks, and woodlands.
Participants should meet at the Plum Cove School parking lot by 9 a.m. The event is free, but advance registration is required. Space is limited to 20 participants.
The program is part of the ongoing Tree Talks lecture and educational series produced by 400 Trees, a Gloucester-based nonprofit dedicated to engaging youth and planting trees, in collaboration with the Sawyer Free Library. Tree Talks bring local and regional experts together to share knowledge about native trees, plants and Gloucester’s unique ecosystem through educational programs and community events. 400 Trees works to cultivate a healthier, greener, and more connected Cape Ann for generations to come. To date, 400 Trees has planted over 470 trees.
