The theme of the quadricentennial “Our People, Our Stories” focuses on commemorating Gloucester’s history through the lives of all those who lived here, including Indigenous peoples, English colonists, free Blacks, enslaved Africans, the many waves of immigrants who built this city from past to present and those who have visited. The anniversary seeks to be truthful in telling the complex story of the place that is now called Gloucester across its 400+ years. Our mission is to commemorate, celebrate, and promote knowledge of Gloucester’s cultural, social, ethnic, and economic diversity. Slept for about five hours at a little hotel between the Las Vegas airport and the strip and woke ready to tackle our first full day of adventures…. or so we thought. By 8:45 pm we were spent and everyone was sound asleep except me…. and only because I wanted to write this post. We drove from Vegas to the Hoover Dam, up Route 40 for two hours, onto the iconic Route 66 and into Williams, AZ. Our adorable airbnb sits right across from the Grand Canyon railway and within walking distance to lots of cute shops and restaurants. By no means a bustling city with nightlife, but super cute in it’s own way. We let the boys fish on Kaibab Lake, had some drinks on our deck and then got dinner at the local brewery and barrel house….Where we immediately ran into someone from Gloucester. If you’re reading this, Jacqueline, I hope the rest of your trip is amazing!

When you are entertaining visitors, there are numerous activities and restaurants you can suggest. (I’m thinking of Nichole’s recent post asking for suggestions). When one of those visitors is a toddler, you start to look differently at some of the “standard” suggestions. The weather’s temperament and the child’s temperament must align for the most successful outings. We had a few of those last week and I’d like to share some of the ideas in case it helps you out in any way.
We visited Good Harbor Beach where the baby bee-lined to the ocean like a baby turtle seeking the water. Then plopped down at the edge of the cold water and surprised himself. (*So, be prepared with extra clothes). We stopped at Toodleoo’s for tea and toys. Sweats of New England had a cool sidewalk sign to tempt children and their fingers. We made a stop at Minglewood to meet family…always a hit. Pasta at Tonno also made for happy faces.
You might say “It’s a toddlin’ town…” and you would be right! I hope you all enjoy any holiday or vacation visitors to our fair city.

About your home from Jameson at Another Level Home
Inspection LLC

While the market continues to reach new levels of competitiveness and desperation, buyers continue to make compromises to purchase a home. Waiving financing, inspection, and other contingencies, and even using escalation clauses or other measures to secure a home has become the norm. Many people would never dream of waiving an inspection, and others are set on doing so. This article is for all the people in between. Home inspectors have been discussing this phenomenon and why its happening and we all have our own opinions of the cause and potential consequences of this trend. It has always been my opinion that the reason for this trend is from lack of experience. The market is filled with newer buyers, inexperienced agents, and sellers that are in a position of dominance at an all-time high. I work with many experienced…

1966 Bobbi Gibb | First Woman to Run Boston Marathon

photos: c. ryan, 2021 | The Great Hall, Terminal B, Boston Logan International Airport was renovated in 2019. New additions feature “exhibits that celebrate New England athletes, sports teams, and special moments in the region’s sports history.” Read more here (Massport PR June 20, 2019)
The 2022 Boston Marathon celebrates the 50th anniversary of women runners’ official inclusion in the race. Eight entered and finished the 1972 race:
Six years prior, Bobbi Gibb from Massachusetts ran the Boston Marathon in 3:21:40 (April 19, 1966), the top female athlete, faster than 2/3 of the field. She was 23 years old. She won again in 1967 and 1968. Gibb is a long time fine artist and Cape Ann resident. It’s a thrill to see this recognition!
Gloucester and Bobbi are incorporated into other designs at Logan. The parking terminal elevator icons and floor feature the Fisherman at the Wheel (Level G) and a Boston Marthon runner (Level 3) — Bobbi (imo).

Mary Tyler Moore – Also 50 year anniversary of season 3, episode 1 (aired September 6, 1972 ) at the office Mary discusses her salary with Murray, then Lou. Mary makes less than her predecessor despite doing better (excerpt: 3:47)
Classic trio scene: Mary talks about a job promotion with Phyllis and Rhoda
“who’s in charge here?” season 3, ep. 3 Sept 1972 written by Martin Cohan
“Oh, don’t look at me. I was one of those cute little girls who always got dolls to play with…”
Phyllis (Cloris Leachman 46 yrs. at the time)
“Phyllis: When she gets her life together, will she need batteries?”
Rhoda
“It’s exactly what I do now.”
Mary
Bobbi’s milestone prompts personal stories. My mother in law shared one about winning a college competitive event as part of a two women team circa 1950 and feeling certain to repeat the feat only to have the contest reconfigured and split into men and women categories the following years to avoid that happening again.

With a love for super warm weather, the beach, pool bars, fishing, and island hopping, we almost always head south to Florida or to somewhere more tropical like Mexico or the Bahamas when we travel in April. This year, my sister and I decided this April to take our boys out west instead. They are 12, 13, and 14 years old…. And hopefully ready for this adventure. After a very long day of traveling yesterday, that included an evacuation of terminal A at Logan and a brief layover in Detroit, Michigan, we finally landed in Vegas at 1:00am (4:00 am back in Gloucester). We just crashed at a hotel in between the airport and the Vegas strip and are off after breakfast for a road trip to Route 66 and Williams, Arizona. I’m excited to show the boys this part of the country! Stay tuned (although, I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t. lol)

Decks are often a favorite of any abode. We all cherish the months we can linger outdoors and watch the sun fall from the sky while sipping our cold beverages. We rejoice when the weather warms up enough for us to open the windows and venture out. The days get longer, warmer and the world becomes a little brighter.

Our daughter was visiting last week with our grandson and I wanted to introduce her to the wonder that is Tonno Gloucester. I was a little hesitant to take a toddler there but I needn’t have wasted that energy. The staff was welcoming and accommodating and our little Schooner clearly enjoyed himself and his food. I had Chicken Milanese and Amy ordered the Sunday Sauce. Perfect and delicious, as always. Thank you our server Sarah for her excellent care and special attention to the baby. Now it’s a favorite for them too!
