Final Margarita Monday of 2021 at Cala’s

We went to Cala’s on Beach Street in Manchester to celebrate Margarita Monday last week. Labor Day is the last official Margarita Monday of 2021 but there’s a fair chance more margaritas will appear in the blog posts before the snow flies! This time, I had the Jen-a-rita which will be on the Favorites List from here on out. Jim had street tacos and I had the bleu cheese burger. Each was tasty and may also become favorites. It was late afternoon on a Monday when we were there so it was a little quiet but the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. *The next day, Manchester changed their mask requirements which is a good reminder to check ahead whenever you are heading out these days. Things are changing fast.* BONUS TIP: Cala’s is in the Serenitee group, so you can accumulate points here too! Win Win!

It’s time to compete for the Oarmaster’s Cup.

Saturday, October 9th at 9 AM the International Dory Racing Committee will hold the annual Oarmaster’s Cup Race (solo dory race) to crown the best single dory rower in the land.  All members are welcome to compete, and the public is welcome to attend the races for some exciting waterfront entertainment!  (Rain date will be Sunday Oct 10th)

The course will start off the end of the dock at Maritime Gloucester and travel out around Ten Pound Island, then back to the start (approximately 1.75 miles).  The race dories are provided by the IDRC, but unlike the other races, this race allows individual rowers to compete head to head in a time trial with the best time winning rights to the Cup.  Refreshments will follow the races offering a chance for the winner to soak up the admiration of his peers.  Don’t miss this battle of skill and endurance on the water in Gloucester Harbor.

Water Damage – Preventing A Leakage Disaster

Jameson Malgeri's avatarCape Ann Home

About your home from Jameson at Another Level Home Inspection LLC

Most homes we inspect have minimal to no forms of water damage protection from components on the interior and leakage. To think about preventing leakage from interior components it makes the most sense to think about where the moisture is and preventing as many of the potential issues with these components as possible.

Washer Machine – A washer machine is a common source of water damage. They are often installed in upper areas of the home in or above finished spaces where leakage would result in significant damage. We recommend installing a pan under every washer. A pan alone offers minimal leak prevention, and the key is adding an automatic water shutoff in the pan. If the pan starts to fill with water, it is detected, and the water shutoff is automatically activated. Another more basic upgrade is changing…

Schooner Festival Parade of Sails

I mean, really. What a beautiful event to grace our harbor. Much thanks to all of the volunteers, organizers, captains and crews, officials, etc who make this happen.

Parade of Sails 2021 As Seen From Stage Fort Park

We decided to watch the Parade of Sails from a vantage point at Stage Fort Park. Just as the schooners were starting to make their appearance, I noticed the Tree of Life adjacent to the sailboats from the GHS Sailing Club and I thought it looked like a mama duck and her ducklings out on the water. Lucky enough, a couple stopped by to chat and noted their daughter Emily was out in one of those sailing club boats. Cheers Emily and her parents! Thanks for stopping by to chat. What a great weekend!

These are just a few of the pictures I was able to get and more will be shared at Pat D’s Photos and Adventures Facebook page, so if you aren’t tired of schooner pictures yet, feel free to view more there.

New Kicks For The Jitterbug

We normally have no tread slicks on teh front but they provided no traction so we went with these new tires that have a tread to them. I’ll let you know how we make out.

Saturday aboard The Lannon

What an amazing beautiful day on Saturday during 2021 Schooner Festival. Love Schooner Festival.

Fireworks Sail Aboard the Thomas E. Lannon

We decided to give the Thomas E. Lannon a try for the fireworks sail this year and what a good decision that was! We saw the fantastic boat parade of lights from the water as well as a terrific fireworks show. I was enjoying the entire atmosphere too much to concentrate on camera settings, but I think these tell the story. If you get a chance for such an experience, take it! The Schooner Festival has made a memorable return this year! Kudos to Maritime Heritage Center and the City of Gloucester!
