Hamilton Wenham Cancels School. Here’s the advisory:

Good afternoon Hamilton-Wenham Families and Staff, 

While at this time the School District is unaware of any confirmed COVID-19 cases, out of an abundance of caution, the school district will be closed tomorrow, Friday, March 13, 2020, for students and staff. 

Student and staff health and safety remains our number priority. 

Canceling school tomorrow will allow our District Emergency Response Team to participate in a state-wide conference call with the Commissioner of Education and the Department of Public Health. We anticipate receiving additional long-term guidance regarding a broader school-based COVID-19 response plan. This will also allow us to further plan for any possibility of extended absences or school closures. We have launched a new webpage that will contain all of our COVID-19 Resources and Information. This information will be updated regularly. 

We believe that taking this proactive step will serve our staff and students well. Monday, March 16, 2020, is a scheduled professional development day and students will not attend school. As of today, staff will report on March 16th.

Any additional changes to our schedule or school calendar will be communicated directly by me through our normal communication channels.

Arts Abound – Reception for Artist John Abisamra

Arts Abound art gallery/gift boutique at 21C Lexington Ave in Magnolia Village of Gloucester will be having a reception for this month’s Featured Artist John Abisamra on Friday, April 3 from 4:30-7pm. Stop by, say hello, and view John’s work in addition to our other wonderful local artists.
John is a well-known photographer on Cape Ann and was featured in the latest issue of Cape Ann Magazine. His photographs have also been published in the Photographer’s Forum Magazine, Lowell Sun, and Gloucester Times.. He tries to capture the uniqueness each season brings along with the magic light that exists. John especially love capturing the beauty of the Cape Ann coastline.

This one is called swaying in the breeze. Acrylic painting. Peace of mint ia the tree. The hammock is the netting from onion bag rocks are mostly abalone. And then shell sea glass. All kinds of stuff I have picked up as Icall them. Natures gifts I see when i’m out walking on a hunt. I actually had one peice of orange sea glass I put as part of a rock to show a orange tone. The reflection of the sun on that rock.

Novena News

You may have heard that Felicia and her team have decided to cancel planned novena events scheduled to be held at the American Legion Hall. This was a painful and difficult decision especially in light of the gargantuan efforts by dozens of people to prepare the altar in a new location.

However, tonight a final rosary will be offered and live streamed on Facebook for anyone to attend virtually. Please join us at 7 pm for the live streamed final rosary. In the meanwhile, here are some photos I hope demonstrate the incredible efforts made to honor this tradition. The attention to detail is humbling.

Topside Grill Has Excellent Wings

I stopped by the Topside Grill because I couldn’t stop thinking about how good Joey reported the Buffalo Chicken sandwich was. But I wasn’t overly hungry so I ordered the appetizer Buffalo style wings (there are other choices like Thai and Jamaican Jerk as well). YUMMY. And, bonus since I was unaware, many appetizers are only $5 during happy hours 3-6 pm Monday through Friday. I had a side of coleslaw and a house margarita for under $20. Going back soon to try the other wing flavors.

LATE WINTER WILDLIFE UPDATE -AND LOVE IS IN THE AIR!

Beautiful bird songs fill the air as songbirds are pairing up.

Carolina Wren

Red-winged Blackbird

American Robin

 

Winter resident ducks are seen in pairs, too.

Buffleheads, Ring-necked Ducks, and Scaups

A beautiful male Northern Pintail has been on our shores for several months.

 

Our young Black-crowned Night Heron has made it through the winter!

And a pair of American Pipits has been here all winter, too.

Many Short-eared Owls and Snowy Owls have not yet departed for their summer breeding grounds.

Red-tailed and Marsh Hawks are here year round and this is a wonderful time of year to observe their behaviors, before sparse vegetation turns lush with summer growth.

Fox and Coyotes have been busy mating; their kits and pups are born from mid-March-through May.

Bald Eagles in our area may begin laying eggs as early as February.

The Harbor Seal posse is seen nearly everyday. The highest count so far was 27!

A pair of sweet Snow Buntings has been here for several days, eating tiny seeds found on the ground.

Brant Geese are seen in small to large flocks before heading to the high Arctic tundra to breed.

There was a murmur back in January- a smaller sign beneath the Ohana facade forecast “Tastes better than it sounds. All You Can Eat Buffet.”
