Lattof Farmhouse Kitchen
I stopped by Lattof Farmhouse Kitchen again the other day and grabbed an ice coffee (delicious…and I’m a little picky about my ice coffee) and a Tremont Sandwich…hummus, roasted red peppers, cucumbers, and havarti. I took the sandwich to eat a few hours later at my desk and bought a blueberry muffin for a late breakfast. Everything was so good! This special place really is a perfect stop on your way in/out of Rockport. Nestled on Main Street (#205) you can get there easily.
If you have not made a point to stop by, you should. The fresh produce at the farm stand out front is bountiful and the quaint picnic area reminds me of days at Something Natural on Nantucket. It really is a lovely spot to sit in the shade and enjoy a quiet lunch.
I’ve heard the homemade anadama bread is not to be missed and next time I stop in I am definitely getting a smoothie.

Aquarius on the Back Shore Update
Last March, I shared pictures of new signs on the back shore at the location of the former Ocean View Inn presenting “Aquarius at Back Shores”. I recently noticed some new activity over there and thought an update might be in order. We now see “Aquarius on the Back Shore” (much better) with a newer logo to go along with the construction activity. Great minds thinking alike, apparently, as the Gloucester Daily Times featured this in Tuesday’s (Aug 6 2019) paper. Click here for full article. I understand we can expect a couple of single family homes along with duplexes. The

The Manor House, to be razed and rebuilt as single family home.

Former High Cliff Lodge to become single family home. I will miss this building especially as we stayed on site several times for family events over the years and I loved this building.

LUSH SUMMER PLANTER GARDEN
Our planters for the Kendal Hotel and Black Sheep Restaurant, located at 350 Main Street in Kendal Square, Cambridge, are planted up in late spring. We keep them going with daily watering and fertilizing.
The hydrangeas look more and more beautiful as the summer progresses and I found a wonderful complementary purplish-blue and white striped petunia at Cedar Rock Gardens this year. With a name like ‘Blueberry Muffin,’ how could one resist purchasing. ‘Blueberry Muffin’ is holding its own and filling out nicely. It’s a keeper and on the list for next year.
Next time you’re in Cambridge, stop by and check out the Kendall Firehouse Hotel and come on in for a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The food is simply outstanding and the staff are wonderfully friendly and professional.
“Kaboom” J. Schneider submits- Postcards from the Edge… of Summer Vacation Part 3
As a kid, a rainy summer day in Gloucester in the 1960s meant a movie at the theater on Main Street, Candle Pin Bowling by the dreaded rotary, a museum, or arts and crafts at home with WSBK on the TV as background noise. When it came to arts and crafts, it was a mix of writing and addressing postcards my mother insisted my sister and I send to friends and relatives before school started in the fall, and my weird, creative, warped mind screwing with those postcards. My mother blamed it on MAD Magazine, which is why I read it. Years later I would work for MAD, so there you go, mom!
Decades before the computer, email or Photoshop, I would sit and cut out pictures from magazines and newspapers, then using gobs of Elmer’s Glue to paste them onto the postcards. Each one a piece of art. No longer would I hear how anyone got the same postcard, and considering there were only six different postcards available at Mal’s (then Ame’s, now a giant Stop& Shop), it was quite an accomplishment.
During the 1980s I was able to make color copies of postcards I was still defacing. I now have folders full of them, from cities around the country, but Gloucester will always be my favorite place to make the recipients wonder if the town is a little too weird.
