Non-Profit Theater Receives Eight IRNE Award Nominations
The Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) recently announced the nominees for the 21st Annual IRNE Awards. Gloucester Stage Company received a total of eight nominations for the 2016 season. The IRNE Awards honor the best of the previous year’s actors, directors, designers and companies across the full spectrum of large, midsize and fringe theater companies in the New England area.
The nominations for Gloucester Stage’s 2016 season include two for Israel Horovitz’s Man in Snow: Best New Play and Best Lighting Design: Mark O’Maley; three for Deborah Zoe Laufer’s The Last Schwartz: Best Actress-Play–Midsize: Brianne Beatrice, Best Actor-Play-Midsize: Paul Melendy and Best Supporting Actress-Play-Midsize: Andrea Goldman; and three nominations for Peter Shaffer’sLettice and Lovage: Best Actress-Play–Midsize: Lindsay Crouse; Best Supporting Actress-Play-Midsize: Marya Lowry and Best Director-Play-Midsize: Benny Sato Ambush. In 2014 Gloucester resident and Academy Award nominee Lindsay Crouse won the IRNE Award forBest Actress-Play–Midsize for her performance in GSC’s 2013 production of Driving Miss Daisy directed by Benny Sato Ambush.Ms. Crouse returns to GSC in 2017 in the New England premiere of Lucy Prebble’s The Effect from June 16 through July 8.
The winners will be announced at the 21st Annual IRNE Awards to be held on Monday, April 24th, at 7:30 p.m. at the 1200 Hotel Ballroom (Holiday Inn) in Brookline, MA, just outside Kenmore Square. The latest Northshore Magazine (Spring 2017) carries a featured article on the new home furnishing company…Room&Board.  In the article is a reference to artist Juni VanDyke with photographs of the artists’ work (page 128). In 2015, the then new company (Room&Board) selected Juni’s work for distribution among the store’s statewide locations (California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, NewYork, Oregon, Washington, Washington, DC). Photos from the magazine are on their way!

We are very proud to announce that the Art Loan @ Bass Rocks program has hit a milestone… its tenth anniversary year, in 2017!
As an artist-member of seARTS, you have the opportunity to exhibit and sell your artwork in the beautiful setting of the Bass Rocks Golf Club, where over 500 club members plus hundreds of visitors will attend club events, weddings, community group gatherings and functions. Now in its tenth year, this annual display/exhibition has been appreciated by countless viewers, generating sales, commissions and exposing our artist-members to a tremendous group of art enthusiasts. This unique partnership between the arts community and the club, made possible through the efforts of the seARTS team, creates an incredible connection to local arts. All seARTS members are invited to submit recent works, and all work will be juried in by an esteemed panel of judges, hand-picked by the seARTS board.
If your membership may have lapsed, or if you’d like to become a seARTS member, please take this opportunity to renew or to join when you send in your Art Loan @ Bass Rocks application.
Once again, an informative, enjoyable, beautiful opening reception will be held at the club (date TBA) that is free and open to invited guests as well as to the public. These receptions have always been tremendously well-attended, featured a panel of experts speaking on some aspect of making/selling/collecting/caring for art, and offer an opportunity for artists and patrons to meet and mix. This is a wonderful chance for the 20-40 selected participating artists to expose themselves and their work to a local, affluent, art loving crowd.

Manchester -by-the-Sea resident Charlotte Roberts is proud to exhibit a Retrospective of her work from 1973-2017 at the Manchester Historical Museum (MHM) located at 10 Union St., Manchester-By-the-Sea, MA, 01944, Telephone 978-526-7230, Â www.manchesterhistoricalmuseum.org. The MHM is open to the public Tuesday through Friday 10 AM through 3 PM The Retrospective opened with a reception on March 14th and will remain at the MHM through April 7th 2017.
The Retrospective illustrates the progression and expanse of Roberts’ graphic design and fine art career. Works include her plain air paintings, studio work, small scale three-dimensional art, bookmaking and collage. Works featured are fine art printmaking, acrylic, watercolors, oil, and gouache paintings from Cape Ann and Cape Cod. The Retrospective includes blown glass vessels, hand-painted by Roberts and hand-blown by her son, John Wiedenman. Wiedenman’s career in glass blowing began at the Pilchuck Glass School in the state of Washington.
The recipient of numerous awards, Roberts has studied with Erma Wheeler, Celia Eldridge, Betty Lou Schlemm, Paul Ciaramataro, Zigmund Jankowski,  Cynthia Packard, Ron Straka, Timothy Harney and Caleb Stone. Her present memberships include North Shore Arts Association, Rockport Art Association and Cape Ann Painters.

Cape Ann Veterans Services in Gloucester always has something going on! Every early Friday morning, there’s a coffee crowd visiting. Friends drive from near and far. On this day a guy came up from Providence.

There’s an article in the current Northshore home magazine  featuring interiors of one of the gorgeous homes on Bass Rocks Road and  JUNI VANDYKE  spotlighted in another piece about the impact of Room & Board’s Boston presence and the value of local artists and artisans. Artist Juni Van Dyke was interviewed, and her work is featured.

Cape Ann Museum docent Margaret Bernier spoke about Honor Moore’s biography of Margarett Sargent, Moore’s Grandmother. The Cape Ann Museum Book Group is reading  The White Blackbird: A Life of the Painter Margarett Sargent. Sargent’s painting Women and Mirror was acquired by the museum in 2002 and is on current temporary display to coincide with the book group and women’s history month. A beautiful Nell Blaine, a diptych by Pat Lowery Collins and two works by Juni VanDyke are also featured. Contact Kate Bibeau to learn more about the book group and other special events like the museum’s second recent on line photo competition, At the Water’s Edge, deadline April 30.

- Mite age player level with birth years 2009 and 2010 are invited to attend a free skate session on Wednesday, March 29th at 5:30 PM.  Mite players will skate an ADM skills game with GHS hockey players while parents are invited to attend an introduction to CAYH’s Mite Co-Ed Travel Program. Â
- Frank Caputo, CAYH Hockey Director, will discuss the ADM player development model and have an open discussion with parents and other attendees. Â
- Pre-Registration is required on our website at capeannyouthhockey.com
- Players must have participated in CAYH Cross-Ice, In House, or Mite Hybrid in 2016-17 (or an equivalent program) to register. Skaters who have participated in Learn to Skate for at least 2 seasons and who have progressed to the “Learn to Play” sections are also candidates for this evaluation. Players must have a valid USA hockey number in order to participate in the on ice skate session.

Is Your Player a “Mite-Age Player”?
Does he/she have a birth year between 2009 & 2010 for the 2017-18 season?
All of our CAYH programs have different program descriptions, cost and commitment levels, but we would like to familiarize the Mite Hybrid travel team to families that have qualifying players, but may not know much about the program.Â
The CAYH Mite Hybrid Team is a travel team that participates in the Valley Hockey League and competes in half-ice games, per USA Hockey rules.  Valley Hockey League (VHL) Mite teams are divided into geographical areas to minimize travel and are also split up into multi-tier divisions to maximize parity.
Teams will play a 25 game schedule. Â
Practices are held 2-3 evenings per week at our local Talbot Rink, and there is generally 1 game each weekend at a Valley League rink. The season runs from September-March.  Tuition for the 2016-17 season was $1200. The tuition for the 2017-2018 season is TBD.Â
Due to popular demand, CAYH has increased the number of Mite-Hybrid travel teams over the past few years to accommodate this growing program.
For Example, The CAYH Mite-Hybrid 2016-17 PLAYER PACKAGE Included:
- 25-Game Schedule, Plus Playoffs in the Valley League
- Avg of 2-3 times weekly practice @ Talbot Rink
- On Ice Skills by Power Edge Hockey
- On Ice Goalie Skills by Bertagna Goaltending
- Chaos Hockey On Ice Skills
- Home & Away Jerseys with Socks (Value $150)**
- Contribution toward End of Season Team Party
- Contribution toward Team Tournament
- Contribution toward Championship Team Jackets
For the 2017-18 season, each player will be receiving home/away personalized jerseys and socks that they will own and be responsible for. This package is valued at $150. Â
Jersey fittings and assignment of jersey numbers will completed at the end of June.Â
