Who can tell me why they have been spraying the train bridge each and every time I have gone under it this summer?
I have passed under the train bridge 10-12 times this summer and each time someone has been spraying the tracks…or maybe the wood. Sometimes the bridge has been open…and sometimes it has been closed…so that doesn’t seem to make a difference.
I’d kind of love to know.

We’ve seen it too. I believe the rails would buckle from the heat if they didn’t cool them that way.

They need to keep the tracks cool enough to allow for normal expansion with the heat otherwise it gets stuck.

They are cooling the tracks due to heat expansion, if they get to hot they lengthen, and the draw will get stuck. Old old old.

Cold and heat as stated by above posters have a steel gate and in winter and summer affects it…:-) Dave

The Bridge is very old, the approaches on both sides ( granite & concrete & wood ) all in dire need of replacement. ( in planning stage now) The actual bridge expands in heat, so it binds when trying to open or close. Anything over 90 degrees requires cooling. Rails are fine. Just another outdated state bridge .
