It was another incredible weekend of whale watching on Stellwagen Bank. On both Saturday and Sunday we saw dozens of Humpback Whales (and 1 Finback Whale on Saturday) on the northern of the Bank.

Feeding was no doubt the main theme of both trips, as we had near constant surface feeding from just about every whale we saw.

On Sunday afternoon in particular, the feeding was right at the surface and we spent a good amount of time with an amazing group of 6 Humpback Whales who were blowing enormous rings of bubbles at there surface and then rising up through bubble with mouths wide open.

Those incorrigible old coots are back again to get you taking fabulous photos this Summer. In just 4 hours on June 4th – from 8:45 AM to 1:00 PM, we’ll have you mastering composition, color, light and portraiture, with a visible difference from your starting image to the end of the session.

All you 2014 attendees get first dibs on the 20 open spots. Double the fun and bring a friend!

I have taken this a few times and it is a great way to learn and have fun.

On Saturday, July 23rd, the most recognized names in New England Folk and Americana music share the stage on Gloucester’s historic waterfront for the first annual EBB & FOLK.

2016 Grammy Award winner for best country song, Lori McKenna, headlines an extraordinary day of music featuring Chris Trapper, Mark Erelli, Chad Perrone, Amy Fairchild, Brian Jarvis, Fozzie Hill and Allen Estes.
This all-day, musical extravaganza takes place under the event tent at Cape Ann Marina (Mile Marker One) on the banks of the Annisquam River just feet from historic Gloucester Harbor. On lucky mornings, there’s time enough to chase the sky. This motif has an emotional cue as well as visual. I was thinking of my parents, early risers, and phases of twilight as a dominant pull. I’m no accidental reverencer. Scratch that. I am. I barely check the weather forecast. The closest I came to regularly checking the weather forecast was the dead simple (and defunct) ‘Umbrella Today’, an early iPad download and sweet routine with my kids.

What do you think of this simple planning tool, Suncalc, for tracking the sun’s path at a particular location? It itemizes those twilight phases so it might be useful for plan-ahead types. Artists may find it easier for setting up shots or an easel; organize your garden, layout solar panels, orient a home with windows and trees sited to save energy, design the most comfortable and practical floor plan for an outdoor event, etc.
