I thought she was very young too,E.J. Swans will occasionally mate at two years, but most don’t begin to breed until their third year.

She was/is quite young. So was his former mate when she wooed him on Henry’s. He was less than not interested–perhaps still mourning his former mate. She persisted. Again, swans stay together for at LEAST one year before mating. We have been feeding ‘Buddy’ since 1997..he was already a mature parent then!!! Also, the young swan who came by could well have been a male…just checking out the territory. As it is not mating season, Buddy would not have chased him off, jus chilled and chatted a bit.

Hi Sybil, The pair of swans at Niles flew in together and departed together. As I said in the earlier post, they were too far offshore to get a close look. We are all hoping for good things for Mr.Swan/Buddy/Poppa!
