When do we stop saying…

So seriously WHEN do we STOP saying “Happy New Year”?

Is there a rule? Time frame? SOMETHING?

  1. My general rule is I will say Happy New Year throughout January to any friend or fairly close acquaintance whom I have not seen since the first of the year. For more casual encounters, for example a retail exchange, I will say Happy New Year only for a few days after January first, unless, of course if the greeting is offered to me, I will certainly return the words of goodwill. But then there are Asian and Jewish New Years. I don’t know exactly when they occur.
