Birdseye Tower Going Down

The Tower is no more.

  1. I always wondered about the purpose of the tower; it stuck out like a sore thumb. Being industrial, I’m guessing that form followed function and it sure wasn’t decorative architecture. Was it an elevator? Did it house a tank that could feed something into the factory by gravity? It was far too high to serve only as a roof access, unless perhaps an elevator ran all the way up to the roof. It had no windows, so it couldn’t have been Mr. Birdseye’s penthouse. I’m running out of ideas.

    1. both…it was the elevator tower and there was a water tank…you are correct in assuming that it was not designed as a decorative feature…I worked in the facility, in my youth when it was operated by the O’Donnell-Usen company…
