You have just crossed over…into the Twilight Zone

A parallel world, very similar to ours here in Gloucester, exists in Bayfield, WI, on the shores of Lake Superior. It has Bodin Fisheries, a commercial fishing boatyard, and even a bar called the Rum Line. Check out Bodin’s “Wild Caught Lake Superior U.S.A.” product list: http://www.bodinfisheries.com/price-list.html. If you’re tired of cod and halibut, try Bodin’s Burbot or whole whitefish.

  1. That’s really interesting, Fred. Any family connection?
There was once a thriving fishery on the great lakes, especially for Lake Trout and White Fish. It began to disappear when steam, then gas engines were introduced to the fishery and rapidly deterioated in the years after the Welland Canall opened allowing boat traffic and the Sea Lamprey access to the lakes inland from

My grandfather, Capt. John A. Dahlmer, his brother Capt. Lawrence Dahlmer and brother-in-law, Capt. Edw.
    E. Wiederman were part of the “Michigan Bears” migration of fishing families from Lake Michigan to Gloucester in 1909-1910. They brought their boats; Margaret D., Rough Rider and Geo, E. Fisher by water and their families followed by train and most settled in East Gloucester and Rock Neck.

  2. I have seen that ‘lake’. I was a tiny little Girl-from-Glosta; I ran toward the water as always, and as I stood on that shore I saw before me water all the way to the horizon. That was no lake. That was an ocean! It might not be MY ocean; but it was definitely an ocean!

  3. One might not realize they had left Cape Ann from the pics. Very interesting. I am intrigued by the dog and man figures. Are they metal artwork? They almost look like driftwood at first glance. Love it! Great pics of a parallel place.
