Something very special about that walk back in time…The hay is one the round bail vice out west allot of square bales…Alfalfa green bucking one too many times – them bales is heavy about 50 – 70 and get heavier as the stack get’s higher when fresh and have to let it stay in field and dry otherwise may cause Spontaneous combustion is always a possibility with stored hay but particularly if hay was baled too wet or too green.

Those bales are outlawed in my area of NY now. It was deemed animal cruelty for denying the critters a square meal.
