A Couple Of Notes About The 2013 Golden Globes

As far as award shows go ever since Ricky Gervais took over 4 years a go and now with Amy Poelher and Tina Fey taking over the hosting duties along with the nominations and award winners I feel like even though winning an Oscar has more cache I would a hundred times rather watch the Golden Globes.

The Oscars have just become way too pompous and arrogant as opposed to the more fun Golden Globes.

  • Ben Affleck winning best director for Argo was fantastic as a bitch slap to the Oscar snub even though I’m not particularly a Ben Affleck fan.
  • Jodie Foster came out in her acceptance speech.  Wait, what? This is news?   We didn’t know she was gay like 20 years ago????
  • This morning the television fashion critics awarded Hugh Jackman as best dressed man.  Now I have no idea how you award this category.  Women wear any different type of dress and you could easily critique their  style.  But a Tux on a man is a Tux on a man.  So I guess you give it to the best looking guy wearing a not  screwed-up tux.

There are two categories of Tuxedos.  A Tux, or some crazy variation of a tux where you look like an idiot.

I hope you are enjoying a well deserved vacation!
I wanted to share my great experience with Tiny Planet Computer on Rogers Street. I recently ran into some issues adding a new email account from a remote server to my laptop. Steve Day walked me through the issues, explaining things along the way so I could trouble shoot on my own in the future. He never made me feel inept as sometimes happens when seeking tech counsel. He also helped sync the account to my phone and ensured they were playing well together! The service fee was reasonable and my issues were quickly addressed. Nice guy, great local company. I highly recommend Tiny Planet if you need technology/computer expertise.

New Torah for Temple Ahavat Achim

On December 17, 2007, when Temple Ahavat Achim burned to the ground, all religious objects, including the Temple’s torah scrolls, were lost. The Temple, having now been rebuilt, has begun the process of having a new torah hand printed in the ancient tradition.

Rabbi Yochanan Salazar is a master sofer, or scribe, who today oversaw the  Hebrew inscription of a  portion of the new torah by members of the congregation. Participation in the  process is a moral deed performed as a religious duty.

Summer residents of Gloucester (and year round visitors) Jane Paznik-Bondarin and Andrew Karlin added a letter under the watchful eye and guidance of Rabbi Salazar, starting with a ritual hand washing and ending with the award of a certificate commemorating the event.

SouthEnd by NorthEast: Artists from Boston and Cape Ann Meet On Rocky Neck
Rocky Neck Art Colony’s new Artistic Director curates an invitational exhibit that brings together artists from Boston’s South End and the Cape Ann region.

January 5, 2013 – Gloucester MA – The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck is pleased to present SouthEnd by NorthEast, a invitational group show of six artists from Boston’s South End studios and three artists from Cape Ann. The exhibition runs from January 31, 2013 through February 24, 2013. The Cultural Center will be open Thursdays – Sundays from noon to 4:00 p.m.

Curated by Adriana “Gigi” Mederos, Rocky Neck Art Colony’s new Artistic Director, the exhibition brings together artists through their reinvention of the landscape and nature in a wide range of mediums; including encaustic, oils, and ink and acrylic. Included in the show is work by artists: Adam Batliner, Cathy Bennigson, Susan Blatt, Linda Cordner, Kay Ives, Elynn Kroger, Ben MacAdam, Mary Bucci McCoy, and Beverly Sky.

Friends of Seacoast Chatter From Tommy Lattoff

While passing out cashmere scarf’s for 132 residents at Seacoast Nursing Home for Christmas last week compliments of the Friends of Seacoast, A nurse asked me if we could buy a computer for the residents. It seems some of them wish to communicate with their grandchildren.

I spoke with our Administrator and offered to fund the project and was told, they would look into it. I am pleased to say that they found this to be a great idea and will be installing a wireless network to accommodate 3 Laptop computers.

This is all made possible by the generosity of the many people who continue to donate to the Friend of Seacoast.

Now how cool is that.

BNI Launches New Business Networking Chapter in Gloucester

BNI, the world’s leading word-of-mouth business referral organization, welcomes local
business professionals to its Gloucester chapter kickoff, on Friday, January 18th, at 7
a.m. at the Bass Rocks Golf Club, located at 34 Beach Road.

Named “BNI Lighthouse,” this new chapter is seeking business owners and sales reps
looking to join the existing core of professionals in growing their business through
word-of-mouth referrals.

The event is free to attend and will feature guest speakers, Patti Salvucci, Executive
Director of BNI in Massachusetts, and Bob Gere, a BNI Mass. Area Director.
