Catholic Schools Week is a time when we are able to open our doors to the
community at large and showcase the very best we have to offer at St. Ann
School. The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2012 is Faith, Academics, and
Service, which are all areas of strength at St. Ann School.
On Tuesday, 1/31, our K – 8 students were entertained by Jedlie, who
presented “The Challenge – To Live as Jesus Taught Us” (www.jedlie.com).
Through magic, stories, humor, song, and dance, Jedlie presented a faith-based
program for our students that encouraged them to treat each other with respect
and to stand up for one another.
Our students have spent the past month collecting warm weather gear for
families in need, and we will wrap up the week with a Patriots Spirit Day on
Friday to raise money for Catholic Charities.

We are announcing the NYC premiere of The Yeats Game, which had its world premiere in Gloucester, back in ’07. With a much re-written script and a fine cast, the comedy opens Feb. 29 for a month’s run. A pr sheet is attached.
This is a wonderful production, and we have sponsorship help from the American Irish Historical Society, the W.B. Yeats Society of New York, and many others. Kathy Richter, who has worked both with Abingdon and Atlantic and other theaters, directs. I hope you can catch the show and let others know about it.

(New York – January 3, 2012) – American Storyboard presents The Yeats Game, a farce of improbable darkness written by John J. Ronan. Kathy Richter directs a cast of four including Toby Wherry, Susan Stout, Jennifer Silverstein and Lucius Wall. Performances for The Yeats Game will be held at The Producers’ Club, 358 West 44th Street in NYC for twenty-four performances beginning Wednesday, February 29 to Sunday, March 25, 2012.
The Yeats Game is a farce about middle-age choices and their ridiculous consequences. At a funeral, as two frisky couples contemplate a friend’s fatal, love-nest heart attack, they flash back to their own recent snowed-in weekend at a mountain cabin. There, a board game designed for age-hating Boomers leads to tangled romance as the old friends explore love, lust, marriage and mischief. Just as guilt prompts confession, and all things point to reform, maturity and reluctant virtue, the play’s close tells us that virtue is a weak motivator, immaturity has its advantages – and that the corpse is perhaps not so dead.
A comical, brainy look at the pre-geezer years, The Yeats Game was inspired by the poet’s famous line: “Only
two topics can be of the least interest to a serious and studious mood – sex and the dead.” The Yeats Game, which played to standing room only audiences at Boston Playwrights Theatre, is a booze-, Viagra-, dice-driven romp.

The Metz gallery at the Sawyer Free Library will be showing the figurative Essex paintings of Kent Bowker through the month of Feburary. As described by the artist, ‘I have tried to catch the essence of the Essex river tidal basin , the great drumlins, and the untidy elegance of the seaside shacks and houses that crowd the Conomo Point, and the sense of tide continually changing the aspect and color of the marsh. I do not pretend to recreate the landscape or ordinary realism.’

Felicia and Sefatia (“the Godmother”) got together to tape a segment on how Felicia’s Grandmother taught her to make a special bacala dish for the traditional Italian meal of the seven fishes on Christmas Eve. This is the third of three parts of the original footage. The entire shoot lasted over 45 minutes, which was edited down to a 10 minute video. Ayn Rand (
/ˈaɪn ˈrænd/;[1] born Alisa Zinov’yevna Rosenbaum, February 2 [O.S. January 20] 1905 – March 6, 1982) was a Russian-American novelist, philosopher,[2] playwright, and screenwriter. Last night we caught the end of The Goddesses’ set at Giuseppe’s. It’s open mic every Wednesday night at Giuseppe’s from 7:30- 10:30. Tony and Sam sound beautiful together and played a variety of fun, funny, and upbeat love songs. I hope to hear more from this rockin’ duo!
