Transform Fitness

Through the American Council on Exercise we have pledged hours to help veterans and their families get fit.  Few words can accurately describe the sacrifices our service members and their families make every day. The stress of war and long periods of separation from family and friends tremendously impact their lives in ways most of us cannot comprehend. We would like to give back to our nation’s men and women in uniform and their families by offering compimentary small group training or group fitness sessions

Specialized sessions for breast cancer survivors

Carol Figurido from Transform Fitness is offering specialty training for breast cancer survivors. If you have had: a breast biopsy, lymph node biopsy or removal, – breast conservation surgery (lumpectomy), mastectomy or breast reconstruction then this class is for you. Any of these procedures can affect how you well you can move your shoulder and arm, take a deep breath, or do daily activities, like dressing, bathing, and combing your hair.. You may find a decrease in muscle and an increase in fat mass, premature osteoporosis and muscle imbalances.

  • Exercise plays a pivotal role in physical and emotional recovery for breast cancer survivors. At Transform Fitness, we would like to help you implement a suitable exercise program by:
  • Increasing range of motion and strength in the affected chest, arm, and back;
  • Increasing lean body mass through strength training;
  • Increasing endurance through a guided program of cardiovascular exercise;
  • Preventing lymph edema or frozen shoulder;
  • Decreasing stress and promoting wellness through education on stress management techniques.

Carol knows firsthand about the benefits of exercise for breast cancer survivors. In 1998, just as she was beginning her career in fitness, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. That diagnosis, surgery, and subsequent recovery inspired her to pursue her dream as a fitness coach both through personal training and teaching group fitness classes. During this time, she realized the importance of living a balanced life, both physically and mentally. Carol is ACE certified Group Fitness since 2000, FRAPersonal Trainer, Stott Mat Pilates, Indoor Cycling, Reebock, Coreboard, PACE Arthritis Instructor, BodyPump, BodyVive, and Pilates Coach certified

National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation

Jean and Carol have been trained by the MS Society to work with individuals living with this illness.  Exercise is a key component of your overall healthcare strategy, but that doesn’t mean you need to be a super athlete to enjoy the benefits. Studies show that moderate aerobic exercise improves cardiac health, stamina, and mood, and helps manage symptoms like fatigue, weakness, and bladder and bowel difficulties. Stretching exercises—whether done on your own or with a helper—can relieve stiffness and improve your flexibility and mobility. Draconid Meteor Shower This Saturday night

Annisquam Arts and Crafts, The Artisans Studio Tour, then Rubber Duck and crew do the Rotary Club Wine tasting this Saturday at Shalin Lui. But that ends at 8PM. What’s a duck to do?

The Draconid Meteor Shower baby!  Some astronomers are predicting a pretty decent meteor shower storm. Cape Ann weather for the weekend is predicted to be cool and crystal clear. Look to the north. You might also check them out Friday and Sunday.

OK, so there is a bright moon and the peak meteors are supposed to be in Europe but Rubber Duck will be out on the granite pile in Halibut Point looking towards Isle of Shoals. (Homie is just helping RD point in the right direction.)
