Just got a phone call

Someone came to the site and saw my contact info for the upcoming Block Parties.

The person was very nice and asked if we were interested in having the Block Parties subsidized by having vendors from Boston and elsewhere coming down and paying to be part of it and sell their wares.

Our committee has maintained three basic beliefs and let those beliefs guide our decisions along the way- Simple Fun and Free.

We want the local retailers and restaurants to benefit.  I politely declined his offer.

It’s not for some vendors from god knows where to come in, it’s for Downtown as we feel Downtown is the star of the show to begin with.

Where Zat Answer

DSCN3397 [640x480]Yep, it’s that little “gingerbread house” (according to Grandkid #4). I like Frank‘s guess!  “I know exactly where that is…… I just can’t remember”! But Nate got it first,”That’s Athena’s house, off Washington Street just up from Plum Cove beach in Lanesville”, followed by Damon,“It is in fact right down the street from me :)” Thanks for playing, everybody!

Scroo Cooking To Bring Andiamo’s Items Into The Fold

Many GMG readers were saddened to see Andiamos close it’s doors this week.

The best way I could describe Andiamos was “out to dinner food at take out prices”. I tried about 10-12 different dishes there and every one was not just good, but outstanding.

I went in to the owners’ other Gloucester food venture- Scroo Cooking to find out what we all want to know.  Will they be bringing some of our favorite dishes down to Scroo Cooking?

Check back at 1PM for our video interview

CATA Buss Passes Bus Stop While People Illegally Park

The move of the bus stop can not come soon enough.  I haven’t seen the bus stop spots free of illegally parked cars once and the buses just cruise on past without even pretending to slow down in the designated spaces.

PHISH @ Phenway!

I’m not sure which was more exciting – seeing Phish for the frist time or being in right field at Fenway. I think everyone there felt the awe of standing where our beloved Red Sox players are each game.As we were picking up the tickets (thank you s000 much, Skip!), it started to rain, but as often happens, the thunderstorm quickly passed and the concert went on on time!

Little League Home Run Derby News From Cindy Rich and Mike Luster

On Saturday, May 30th the Gloucester Little League held their 4th annual Home Run Derby and Family Day at Boudreau Field. It was a gorgeous day enjoyed by hundreds of kids and their parents. The day began with a free clinic for all ages run by GHS Varsity Baseball Manager, Joe Orlando and several of his players.

The first event of the day was the “Hit the Target” contest where players had three chances to throw a ball from centerfield and hit a target at home plate. The winner of the Majors B Division was Alex Rodolosi of the Reds. Alex took home the grand prize which was $20.00 in Friendly’s gift certificates. In the Majors A Division Colby Ferris from the Indians took home the $25 gift certificate to Cape Ann Lanes.

The second event was the Roadrunner competition. The Roadrunner race is a relay consisting of 4 players who are timed as they run around the bases. In the Majors B division, the Twins took home the first place prize of a pizza party for the entire team at Papa Ginos. In the Majors A Division the Yankees flashed around the bases to claim first prize which was a pizza party at Leonardo’s Pizzeria.

Next was the Around the Horn competition – another timed event which consists of 9 players making throws to different positions on the field. In the Majors B division, The Braves won their second consecutive title and claimed their pizza party at LaRosa’s Pizzeria. In the closest contest of the day, the Mariners claimed first prize in the Majors A division and took home their pizza party from La Trattoria.

Next up was the Main Event – The Home Run Derby!!! This is what the people paid to see, the Grand Daddy of them all. The 9 year old home run was won by Salvi Costanzo of the Athletics who outslugged Jeremy McCollum, also from the Athletics. In Round 1, both Salvi and Jeremy hit 6 bombs each to advance to the final round.

In the 10 year old division Kellen Field of the Twins out-dueled Brett Lovasco of the Royals to take home the 10 year old title. Brett Lovasco pounded 3 dingers in round one, but it was Kellen Field who cranked 3 homers in the final round to take home the 10 year old crown.

The 11 year old title was claimed by Red Sox, second-baseman Noah Aiello. Noah belted 3 homers in round one and another three in the final round to outlast Indians’ slugger, Brennan Crossman.

The 12 year old competition was one for the ages as Sam Bevins from the Red Sox pounded his way to a victory over teammate Bart Margiotta and Tyler Favaloro of the Dodgers.

All four home run derby winners were awarded a $25.00 gift certificate from Palazola’s Sporting Goods.

The biggest victory of the day was claimed by Carla Pallazola who took home the Grand Prize of $5,000.00 in the annual Big Money Raffle. Other prize winners were as follows:

$1,500.00 The McCollum Family

$1,000.00 The Oliveira’s

$500.00 Donna Shepard
