These cool decorated grocery bags were at Shaw’s today thanks to kids who celebrated Earth Day yesterday!

Tall Ship Prince William
This was taken last summer while I was on the boat in Ipswich Bay. The Prince William is a UK ship that is a teaching ship like the Sea Scouts we had in Gloucester years ago. Do we still have the Sea Scouts?
Gorton’s Seafoods Gallery At Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center
Getting pictures of stuff behind glass is a challenge, especially without a tripod and with funky lighting but this gives you a little glimpse of some of Gloucester’s fishing past which has been preserved and displayed here. You just gotta go check out the exhibit at The Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center. These are original advertisement and packaging from Gorton’s back in the day. There’s just a ton to look at and discover here.

Director Matteo Garrone’s epic, mesmerizing tour-de-force about Naples’ infamous Camorra was a critical sensation at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prize. A sweeping drama with documentary-like realism, the film explores the mafia’s vice-like hold on all aspects of life in the regions of Naples and Caserta. In Italian with English subtitles.
“The film is a curative for the romanticism of ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Scarface’.” -Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
“It’s ugly. It’s powerful. But it’s hard to look away. ” -Stephen Rea, Philadephia Inquirer
“Don’t look for resolution, romanticism, or comic relief in this underworld tour, shot with a fast, you-are-there look and no pity; you won’t find picaresque goodfellas or Sopranos-style ziti eaters here. Instead, there’s the power of damning truth.” -Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly

Hydraulic Pile Driver
This hydraulic pile driver was laying on the side of the road on the Essex Causeway. I imagine they are doing work on to get the marinas in the Essex River ready for boating season. To give you an idea of how it works I found this cool graphic on the Powerquip Industrial Co website.
For those of you who don’t know what a pile driver is (no, it’s not a hemorrhoid removal technique), it hammers pilings into the ground for support to build on top of. The harbor is a place where you see many piling supported buildings.
You can click this text to see pictures of Hydraulic Pile Drivers in use in different applications.

Little Donna Ardizzone
I’m not gonna tell Donna who sent in this picture. She will have to figure this out on her own 🙂 Wasn’t she a cute child?
Donna is one of the group of good eggs in the “One Hour at a Time Gang” who have been meeting on Saturday mornings to clean an area of the city that could use some clean up. They decide on an area and meet Saturday mornings for an hour or so and get it done.
