Beautiful Industry- Herring Boat Sunlight Winches

Myron Lepine Bundles Up For The Cold Weather

It’s been nasty cold the last couple of days.  Not that I have to tell any of you reading this if you’re from Gloucester.  We’ve all been breaking out the heavy winter gear early and there has been ice on the floor in the morning which is not a good sign for the lobsters as when the water temperature drops to a certain level, they really slow down.

Herring Boat Providian Net Reel

There is a whole lot of steel up high on this boat.  To me it would seem top heavy, but honestly I’m no boat designer and I’m sure it’s safe as the boat has been around a while.

See all the hoses leading into the net reel?  Those are hydraulic hoses which power it to turn.

Sean said it took 3 hours to get the detail on this tattoo.  The kid is crazy!

Jay, Joey, and Emile At Cape Ann Community Cinema

Three out of the four presenters from the First Gloucester Guerilla Art Project Presentation at Cape Ann Community Cinema.  Missing is Rob Newton and Mark Teiwes.  We will be putting another show together for January.  As you can see we had lots of fun that night and we’re looking forward to much more.

Beautiful Industry- Herring Boat Sunlight Winches

See where the wire passes through the white rectangular piece at the top of the winch?  That white rectangular piece glides back and forth on that black bar as the wire gets loaded onto the spool so that it gets loaded evenly and doesn’t bunch up in the middle.

These massive winches are what pull the nets aboard and set them out.
