My View of Life on the Dock
The Hive Gallery will be closed this Friday & Saturday only because we will be down at the Gloucester Sidewalk Bazaar! So come down and see us there 9am to 5pm (weather permitting) both days. We will be at the west end of Main St. near the Blackburn Tavern. Our booth is gonna be packed out with the best work on on the whole block…the whole island rather. Stop by and support a new direction in local art.

*Stay tuned for a few Hive events coming down the pike. Surf movie night is scheduled for 8/7/09 and another opening on Friday night 8/14/09 featuring all new work from Everlution Forms. As always, check our website for the most current info.
thanks The Hive

The Hive is equal parts working studio, gallery event space & clubhouse for the younger generation of Cape Ann creative folk. We formed early in 2009 to encourage art & idea collaborations, support systems and the creation of links between individuals and their community as a whole.

The Hive seeks to build community by providing a space for arts exploration, cross-pollination of ideas and promoting creative and active lifestyles on Cape Ann.

This blog is our mainline of communication. Content ranges from what’s happening at the The Hive, to what our contributing artists are currently working on, to general info of what’s going on on Cape Ann and the surrounding area.

We are a pretty diverse crew, ranging both in our artistic styles as well as our passions. However, we find common ground in our vision to unite the creative & active community and make Cape Ann a more unique place. Check out our profiles to learn more about us.

For a place that has such a rich history with the arts, sometimes it feels like the current scene is much too focused on traditional fine art and is lacking on support for new mediums. Our gallery at The Hive sprouted from the fact that we have so many local friends doing interesting work, without a clear venue to show it.

Jon Conant from TheHiveCapeAnn and Everlution Forms brought a pile of these Hive Stickers to The Blogapalooza Event/Cape Ann Beer and Blog. Click this text for more info on how you can get a free Hive Cape Ann Sticka!

With a little over 24 hours total planning we got about 20 or so of Cape Ann’s Blogging community together for a meeting of the minds and to enjoy each other’s company. The Cape Ann Online community was well represented. We live video blogged from Cape Ann Brewing Company, had a cake for Sharon’s 60th Birthday and enjoyed a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday from Alexander Thompson and Gardy. What were the words to that song again? All I know is it ended with “DEATH”
Fun was had by all. I’d love to make Cape Ann an official Chapter of the Beer and Blog group but after reading their guidelines they require a weekly meetup. Weekly seems like a bit much for an old man like me but if there is enough interest I’d love to sign us up to be a chapter. I’d only be able to make about one or two a month tops though.

I’d like to thank the kind gentleman at the local supermarket who put the words on the cake for me without batting an eyelash.

Surprise!

Cape Ann Brewing was really a fantastic spot for the meetup with it’s long benches it allowed for a communal sharing of ideas and a free flow of people buzzing around.
I can’t believe they had their hours rolled back to an 8:30PM closing time when they were going for an actual extension to regular hours at last night’s liquor licensing hearing.
We should discuss weather we should change locations every so often or keep it at Cape Ann Brewing. If people would like to mix it up a bit the one requirement would be that the joint would have to offer free wifi.
If the Blog and Beer guidelines do not allow us to become a chapter under their banner we will stick with the Cape Ann Blogapalooza moniker and just add roman numerals after each meetup.
