Final 4~ Cape Ann United moving on to the semis! #MTOC Massachusetts State Soccer Tournament

Never give up! On June 24 and June 25, two brackets of four teams in this age group battled to make it to the final four on June 26. Cape Ann United needed at least three goals in their second game today, and the other teams had to meet specific spreads if there was a chance to move on. Unbelievably, that’s what happened! The win was so thrilling, the Arlington players they lost to yesterday ran over to congratulate the Cape Ann United players afterwards. Pembroke and Harvard are out. It was such a unique sports win, as much or more exciting than winning three matches straight.

Goal Differential!

“What an amazing end to our group play today! How can you not be a believer of this team when you see them score 3 goals in the last 10 mins against Harvard (who seemed likely the best team in our group) to knock them out and advance to the semis! It is confirmed; We play at 9am tomorrow on field 9. If we’re fortunate enough to win, we’ll play in the finals at 10:50am.”

Manchester Essex Varsity Soccer Out duels St. Mary’s For Division 1 North Championship

Ranked 7th overall going into the Division 4 North Tournament Manchester-Essex first took on Mystic Valley and fought to a 1-0 win this past Wednesday. The win moved them to Manning Bowl in Lynn where they had to face the number 1 seed in St. Mary’s on a cold (!) Sunday afternoon. This was Manchester Essex first trip to a championship game..ever. Leading for much of the game at 2-1 Manchester Essex saw St Mary’s score to tie the game late in the second half which is where the score stood at the end of regulation time. After two scoreless overtime periods the teams moved on to penalty kicks to decide the win. Manchester Essex took the win with a 5-4 penalty kick score and now moves on to the Division 4 State Finals! It was a great game with constant action at both ends of the field. On to the State Final!

Manchester Essex Field Hockey wins Semi Final!

Playing on a neutral field at Reading High School, the Manchester Essex Hornets took on the Ipswich Tigers in  MIAA State Field Hockey Tournament Semi-Finals. In a hard fought first half the Tigers broke through first for a 1-0 lead but before halftime  the Hornets were able to score the equalizer. In the second half both teams continued playing great defense and getting/allowing few scoring opportunities. The Hornets held a decided edge in penalty corners but had a tough time converting for scores.  Manchester Essex did get a few more chances and managed to make one count for the 2-1 lead.  The Hornets worked hard to preserve the win despite a strong finishing Ipswich attack. The Hornets move on to the finals of the State Tournament where they will face the perennial powerhouse Watertown. Game will be played at North Andover High School Saturday November 9th at 11:00.
