Breaking storm, high tide Long Beach: spectacular ocean fountains as receding waves ricocheted off seawall into oncoming surf

One of nature’s ocean fountain water shows was on exhibition today as walls of waves slammed the seawall then smashed into incoming surf.
The suite of windy ocean spray waltzes are infinite and varied.
of course I failed to convey the beauty and instance of a plume line but I tried 🙂

Long Beach seawall walkway construction continues – widening and extending path to Rockport end
In 2018 Rockport widened much of the Long Beach seawall walkway beginning at the Gloucester side and stretching past the midpoint. Recently crews began extending this project straight through to the end point on the Rockport side. The work is expected to be completed in a couple of weeks.
Rocky explained it’s done in segments and moving right along.
Besides this big project, the getting ready for summer bustle is in full swing. Annual staircase return? Check! Front row cottage work? Check! New patio and masonry work by the former hotel (photos 2018 vs 2019 below) where the stone patio was compromised, various yardwork and private deck repairs are visible along the promenade.

The sidewalk path is plowed, and the oceanside parallel path is nearly completed. Gloucester DPW says they’ll “have 6-8 Bobcats with snowplows running all weekend–city’s and city contractors.” I’m sure there’s still much to happen and clear. Still, isn’t it amazing how many roads are spic and span, and that trash pick up was just one day held off?

Saturday May 6, 2017 is the official ribbon cutting re-opening of Stacy Boulevard by Mayor Romeo Theken. Thanks to the Mayor, Mike Hale and all Gloucester DPW, GZA, Essex County Landscape Assoc, Gloucester Community Preservation Act, Ann Giraldi Johnson, GFWA, Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, and groups like the Seaport Economic Council and Dir Carolyn Kirk, Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), Joe Lucido, Ed Parks, Mike Linquata, Donna Ardizzoni and One Hour at a Time Gang, Ringo Tarr, Bobbie Turner, YMCA and summer help, Wolf Hill, Generous Gardeners, and other volunteers!
