Announcing The Gloucester Blues Festival Saturday, August 11th, 2012
It’s a good time to give Good Morning Gloucester the news on our headliner for the Gloucester Blues Festival taking place in Stage Fort Park on Saturday, August 11th.
Shemekia Copeland is at the top of her game, and will thrill the blues lovers at Stage Fort Park this August. She performed earlier this week at the White House for President Barack Obama and shared the stage with blues luminaries like Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Jeff Beck, Keb Mo, Warren Haynes and Trombone Shorty.
On Monday night at 9:00 p.m., PBS will be broadcasting the show: “In Performance at the White House Red, White and Blues”. I urge our friends to tune in and get a small sampling of the powerful voice of Shemekia Copeland, the Queen of the Blues.
The Gloucester Blues Festival is a Paul Benjamin/Bob Hastings Production. Paul Benjamin is the producer of the North Atlantic Blues Festival in Rockland, Maine which attracts 16,000 people to the Maine waterfront each July:
We promise to bring the finest in blues to Gloucester this summer. We will be releasing the names of other performers in the weeks ahead.

Best of all, she tells us when we might expect to hear her new songs.
Marina’s got a gorgeous new website (see here) and you can hear some of her music here.
It’s Tuesday in Gloucester. Â That means KBMG at Jalapenos and Henley Douglas at Rhumb Line. Â Enjoy!
Just in case you missed it …
gimmesound Artist of the week: Allen Estes was one of the stars of Celebrate Gloucester 2010 at I4-C2 — and he was joined on stage by Fly Amero in a surprise appearance (Fly originally couldn’t play Celebrate Gloucester due to a scheduling conflict) for one of Allen’s most popular songs, Not With Ya Hands about Gloucester legend Howard Blackburn.
Their inspiring performance was one of the highlights of the festival. Â Click on the video and check it out!
Lots to choose from tonight swing, funk, jam band & good ol’ rock ‘n roll. Â See full lineup here:
“Gloucester Town” – from the Wednesday “sing” at the Annie
Carlo Cicala played and sang “Gloucester Town” (his variation on a familiar song) last Wednesday evening at the “sing” at The Annie. Â He was accompanied by Bob on the sax and Ernie on the guitar. Â I had some camera trouble that cut off the first few seconds, but here is the rest:
Wednesday night “sing” at The Annie
Here’s a snapshot from the “sing” last night at The Annie – a weekly informal get-together on Wednesdays from 7PM to 9:30PM, where everyone gets a chance to sing and/or to sing along with others, and/or play acoustic instruments. People are also welcome to come just to listen. Â Our host requests a $5 donation from participants to help support our venue’s basic expenses.
Last night we had songs in English, Italian, Spanish, and Latin, from a variety of genres.  We ended up with twelve people, three guitars, a sax and a clarinet (I think… I’m not an expert on wind instruments, so I may be misidentifying it).  Come and join us for future “sings”!
In a day or two I’ll post a little video clip of one of the songs sung yesterday.
Merry Christmas!
The parish choir (directed by Tom Misuraca) sang before Mass yesterday night, offering a sort of recap of the Christmas concert held earlier in the month. Â Here are some highlights.
Unfortunately, in one or two places there is a little bit of feedback in the microphones which mixes with the higher frequencies in the music and makes it sound a little off-pitch, but the choir sounded great.
St. Ann’s Christmas Concert
Here are a few photos. I was in two of the choirs, so I don’t have photos of those, but here are some of the other performers:

Free Music is Almost Always a Good Thing
This time, in my opinion, it’s a really good thing, if bluegrass/indie/Americana/folk music is your style. Singer-songwriter Daniel Dye is offering a couple of free downloads through his facebook page. Daniel’s music is all original – he comes up to Cape Ann a few times a year with his band, The Miller Road Band to play a mix of Americana music with bluegrass instruments (banjo, mandolin, guitar, harmonica, fiddle and even a cello). These people are all family members of mine, so I’m probably a little biased but if the Avett Brothers are your thing (or the suddenly-they’re-everywhere Mumford and Sons), you will probably want to take advantage of these free downloads. Of course, you have to be on facebook to take the band up on the offer but you can’t truly get something for nothing, I guess. Click here for the download: www.facebook.com/danieldyemusic.
Here’s a video of Daniel Dye & (part of) the band recording a show at public radio station WYSO.
Neshama Carlebach To Play The Liu
Good morning Joey,
Your website is fantastic! And easy to get around on. I have only been here around 47 years so far, served on the Gloucester City Council back in the 70’s,
etc. My name is Willy Greenbaum.
I am hoping you can post this music announcement. The Jewish Temple that burned down on Middle Street when the Lorraine Apartments burned, in late 2007 is putting up a new building and to celebrate the construction the Temple is sponsoring an ecumenical concert on March 12 at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport. It stars a nationally know Jewish female singer, Neshama Carlebach, her band, and members of the Green Pastures Baptist Choir from New York.
Should be a great night of music. Here is an announcement for it, with a photo of Neshama.

The End is Near
The end of 2010, that is. Even though I’m spending Christmas far from Cape Ann, I’m dreaming of a White Christmas in New England, and of course already planning for the last night of 2010 at New Year’s Rockport Eve, the annual party (including a ball drop in Dock Square) in downtown Rockport. Claire Franklin, the one-woman whirlwind who founded and organizes the event, works hard all year to bring all of us this event, offering entertainment of all kinds – magicians, puppet shows, and every genre of music you can think of.
Click the link for more information and the Schedule of Events. The video is of the band BeatleTracks playing at last year’s New Year’s Rockport Eve.
