Raising Money For The Family Of Matteo Russo

Here is the logo-

While away I was wracking my brain trying to think of some ways that would have a decent impact to help the family of Matteo Russo.

I just got in touch with Rob Newton, the manager of The Cape Ann Community Cinema and asked if we could donate a portion of what the gate is from the upcoming G-GAP presentation at Cape Ann Community Cinema to the fund that has been established for Matteo’s family.

He said sure, so Cape Ann Community Cinema will take the regular gate and 30% will go to the fund for the family.

The event is going to be January 28th at 7:00PM

There’s more though.

I just ordered a bunch of T shirts that Paul Frontiero has graciously agreed to silk screen for free and Beth Swan From Beth Swan Design is offering her winning GoodMorningGloucester Logo design and art skills to the project.

So if you haven’t been able to contribute to help the family but would like to, I should have the Tshirts at the GGAP next Wednesday night for $20.  100% of the money from the sale of the TShirts will go to the family on top of the money from the gate.

It’s not going to be a percentage of the money from the sale of the tshirt minus the cost, but every cent donated for the tshirt will go to help the family.

Hopefully some of the regular CAO and fans of GMG and will come on out in support.

Much thanks go out to Rob Newton, Paul Frontiero and Beth Swan for helping with the project.

Menage Gallery Tower Of Power

This work of art was constructed by Ed Soucy at The Menage Gallery Downtown.    It stands 13 feet 6 inches tall and is floor to ceiling.  Viking oars adorn it.  Unbelievable.  Just another reason to head downtown to check out stuff you’ll never find in Plainseville or Anytown USA.

Coveted Yarns On East Main Street

When you drive by Coveted Yarn at night the bright colors light up the windows of it’s store at 121 East Main Street (next to Smoking Jim’s).  Here’s Robert stocking shelves.  You can see one of the couches where you can sit and knit and chat with other knitters.

Coveted Yarns On East Main Street

Ridiculous Discounts on the clearance racks at Coveted Yarn.  There was some yarn that was $9 per skein that was marked down to $3 and if you bought a whole bunch they further were reduced 20% on top of that.  Well worth it for you to checkout if you are a knitter, or know a knitter that might like a gift certificate for the holidays!

Coveted Yarn Baby Hat Contest

At Coveted Yarn they have a fantastic contest in which everyone is a winner.  For every baby hat knitted and donated Coveted Yarn places an entry in for a drawing for a $50 gift certificate.  The baby hats then get donated to children wards at hospitals.  That’s a great idea in my book.  For all you knitters or people that want to learn how, swing by their shop on East Main Street next to Smoking Jim’s from 10-12 on Saturdays for free knitting lessons.

For most of the pictures I use a Sony H3.  It is not as good as a DSLR like a Nikon D40 which my wife has but it is a nice compromise of smallish size with a ten times optical zoom.  It wouldn’t be practical for me to lug a big camera around and at least half of the shots I take are of the spontaneous kind which wouldn’t happen if my camera wasn’t on my person when something took place.

I’ve been shooting for a couple of years but in no way do I consider myself a professional.  About half the shots I take are with the automatic settings unless I know there is something I want to mess with and I’ll make a manual adjustment.

There are many far greater photographers than me who have blogs like Steve B, Jay Albert, Jim Barber, Sharon Lowe, and Mark Teiwes.  What I think I bring to the local blogging world is a combination of journalistic flair, and I’m not intimidated to get in someone’s grill with my camera.  I like pictures of boats as I take my fair share of them and I like pictures of the harbor but the work I like the most is the personal shots of people doing something or up close that can tell a story.  I’m in sort of a unique situation because I know so many diverse people between the restaurateurs, fishermen, and artisans around town and I’m also sort of a tech geek so when you put all that together I think it makes for a semi-interesting blog.
