Barrence Whitfield Jamming With Willie Loco Alexander at GMHC August 7th

This is sure to be a fantastic event.

What I would like to point out and this banner is a classic example of graphic designers who design banners for poster flyers to go full page in coffee shops but not for the web.  Just a few days ago I had this intraweb conversation about the frustration of posting flyers with tiny font with Jo Castano from  http://www.artsgloucester.com/ and Kat Valentine from http://parlezmoiblog.blogspot.com/ who also will forward along community event fliers on their respective websites.

Maybe some graphc designers will read this and probably it should go into another post which I’ll get around to at some time. But for any people that design banners that will be viewed on the web please understand that the banner that you make to print out and go on walls of coffee shops with tiny font- that doesn’t translate too well to most blogs and web pages that are working with 500 pixels wide. Once your full sized poster gets shrunk down to 500 pixels wide it’s pretty much illegible.   If your intent is to get your message across to other mediums- you might want to think about using a little larger font size-just sayin.

This cross-generational tour de force set in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. from 1967 to 1968 is the story of Sarah, a determined young secretary from the Canadian prairie, who finds herself working for the aging Francis Biddle, Attorney General under Franklin D. Roosevelt and the primary Chief Judge of the Nuremberg Trials. An intimate and inspiring story, Trying is based on the playwright’s own experience as Biddle’s personal secretary from 1967-68. Directed by Gloucester Stage Artistic Director Eric C. Engel, the production features the return of Gloucester Stage favorite Richard Mawe as Judge Frances Biddle and Gloucester Stage newcomer Becky Webber as Sarah Schorr in a limited run of two weeks.

Go See- Sing! A GREAT SHOW FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY

Sing!
A new musical for the entire family  at Blackburn Performing Arts  1 Washington St.  Gloucester.
Friday July 16th and Saturday July 17th 7:30 PM
Tickets $10 adults $8.00 students & seniors
How could a musical take place inside a car? Well, it could if the passenger was on her way to a talent show audition – especially if the driver, her mother, was attempting to give her advice. Sparks start flying, mostly between the annoying younger sister and the “star” to the accompaniment of songs in a wide variety of styles – blues, rock, opera and country all fuse into one sizzling audition that… well, you be the judge.
Sing! is a new show written by Tim O’Brien and directed by local Emerson College studentCaitlin Hugel.  Local teens, Alexandra McColl and Marissa Lundy have choreographed the show and are featured dancers in the show.  The cast is made up of very talented Cape Ann youth ranging in age from 4 to 17: Rachel Sternlicht, Alexandra LeGendre, Charlotte Salmon, Alexandra McColl, Marissa Lundy, Jessica Lupo, Hannah Sears, Jack Favazza, Sarah Urbanski, Rebecca Brackett, Christina Giambanco, Henry Hardy, Owen Hardy, Bailee Militello, Sadie Baekstrom, Sabrina Siragusa, Stefanie Millefoglie, and Torrie McCabe Smeltzer

UK-based dance artist Vincent Cacialano and Gloucester dance artist Sarah Slifer pair up to perform Cacialano’s PLEX,

a multi media performance event. It is a collaboration of contemporary choreography, sound and visual art. Three works will be shown during the evening, two dances titled Plex 1 and Instructions for stopping and starting, as well as a short film titled Ouch. The work explores visceral, challenging movement and complex compositional structures alongside visuals and moving imagery.

“It looks simple in the beginning but the further Plex is taking you you may get startled by all the aspects telling something at the same time, somehow together. You are getting plexed indeed."  Phosphor – Live

Roory O’Connor Presents Shoes Tonight At Blackburn

Go See- Shoes

Due to this terrible recession and depression, the Mayor of Gloucester had a bright idea to cheer up the citizenry: She asked the Governor of Massachusetts to temporarily release Mr. O’Connor from the Funny Farm in order that Mr. O’Connor be able to perform his One Man Show of  humor and stories about Ireland and Life. Mr. O’Connor is a direct descendant of The Last High King of Ireland, whose legacy left a dark mark in allowing the English into Ireland all because of a piece of *&^%$. Due to not having done a show in a long time [ever], Mr. O’Connor asked the Mayor if he could bring along a few of his mates from the Funny Farm in order that they may help him feel more confident and not so alone on stage. Mr. O’Connor’s friends, Paddy The Rat, Spud Murphy, Dick Reily and Marty Nolan, will be present among the audience (a mug shot of these lads is presently on display at the local police department). We feel it is important to have Mr. O’Connor’s friends here to help maintain a sense of order due to past experiences where civil disorder and rioting has broke out during Mr. O’Connor’s performances.

A word of warning: Mr. O’Connor has been known to have made a pact with the Devil so it’s important to say your confessions with your local priest as Mr. O’Connor has been known to corrupt the purest of minds that even Nick himself has been extremely mortified and will most likely be out of a job by the time this show is over. Past records indicate that the divorce rates have skyrocketed in town due to the women and men dancing naked down the street to the great Irish music. If you have a hard time locating the theatre, it will be easily be seen by Mr. O’Connors’ donkey and cart outside the entrance way of the theatre. Also in company with his donkey will be his donkey’s friend “Mc Ginty” the goat. One must be careful not to feed these creatures as they have been known to snap the fingers off people. Other than that they are charming to look at.
