There were so many great Floats this year. The disadvantage of walking in the parade is that you don’t get to see the parade, but from the floats that I did see that were around us they all were fantastic with a ton of effort and all deserved trophies of which there were many. Hopefully I can get a list of the winners emailed by the Horribles Committee so all the others can be recognized on these pages.
The Floats that I got to see because they were around us were the Annisquam kids playing Annie and that was outstanding. When we pulled back into the parking lot at the end they were still going strong with their singing! Glazed float was impressive also with the cute outfits and 50’s theme. I love the bagpipes and they were behind us. Chills every time I hear them. The Rhumb line always has a strong entry of musicians. R&K Fuel and the John Deere Tractors was cool and the Steeple one was creative as hell. I honestly didn’t get to see more than that because we were boxed in by big trucks in the parking lot but there was a lot of creative energy spent by people and I’m sure the committee wishes they could give everyone an award.

John Todd lobsters on the Tir Na Nog. It’s a tiny boat that rolls around like an empty chlorox bottle being tossed around in the sea but John get’s it done aboard the Mighty Tir Na Nog nonetheless. Everything aboard the Tir na Nog is tiny except for the skipper- John Todd. I’m not exactly sure how he fits in the pilot house of the boat, being hunched over all day doesn’t sound like a whole lot of fun.
The meaning of Tir na nÓg is "Land of Eternal Youth." From an old Irish legend, Tir na nÓg was a mythical island off Ireland’s West Coast where its inhabitants remained forever young.

This is one of the new solar compactor trash collectors the city purchased with a grant. this one is one main street next to the Judith Sargent Murray Hough house stairs.
The city has already seen a reduction in illegal trash dumping in public receptacles, only has to empty these about 2 times a week. there is less trash blowing around main street these days, and fewer opportunistic scavengers!

heres the solar panel on the compactor
you can read more about these types of compactors on the manufacturers website-
My grad-daughter has a severe milk allergy which is not the same as lactose intolerance, and since so many foods are made with milk and milk products these days that we have to pay attention to what’s in just about everything she eats. I wanted her to have a great time at the Fiesta, without the worry.
I ran into Steve Maniaci co-owner of WEST END SWEETS and he guaranteed that she could have a sweet treat at West End Sweets and no worry. He called ahead to the store and made sure that they used a sterile scoop when they made her a raspberry treat with gummy bears. She loved it, and thank you Steve for making her day.
Parents with children and want to give their kids a treat visit West End Sweets, kids without milk allergies can enjoy the best ice cream in town, but if they do have milk allergies, Steve and his staff will bend over backwards to insure the safety of your child.
They also carry other sweets, I felt like a kid again.
Thanks again Steve.
…”At the helm, bronzed hands grip a spoked wheel,

And returned with a trip of fish
all but one voyage, but you take note

S.A.D.D., Students Against Drunk Driving had a booth at the St, Peter’s Fiesta. They were Handing out Flyers and had a Triva contest related to Music and their cause.
They had a Pirate Captain from the Pirate Faire stop by and take part in the games. While he was there he took a pledge not to Drink and Captain his Pirate Ship. He promised to only eat The Swedish fish candy that he won at the S.A.D.D. Booth.
The Kids did a great Job.

I brought the girls onto the Ferris wheel so we could capture the start of the senior seine boat race in pictures and video. (Video coming)
Timing worked out perfectly as we were able to get down on the beach for when the KAOS hit the beach for the win and I could send in the picture and news right as it happened for our readers to have the news first!

The Former Champs Didn’t Have Much To Worry About
Watching tv one night 2 weeeks ago my son james got a phone call. All I heard at first was james talking to someone on the other end.
James; “Wow! That’s awesome!, Congratulations! Do you want me to tell Dad or will you? ok, here he is.”
My first thought was someone hit the lottery! or Someone got a great job!
I was wrong on both counts. My son Salvatore was on the phone all excited about how he was picked to walk the Greasy Pole on Saturday.
Of course when he told me I was excited for him! (not really) but I pretended to be.
I gave him some words of encouragement; “What are you F’n Nuts!, What if you get hurt? Can you swim? Do you know what your getting yourself into?, Do I have to watch?, Are you going to be drinking?” The answer to all those questions was, “YES”!
What could I do? He’s old enough to make his own decisions. I guess it is a Gloucester tradition. His Granfather did it, my oldest Son did it and hopefully Sal will be the last to do it. But I still have two more Boys who’d like to try it. Oh God my Heart!
My Heart will be out there on the Pole today with Sal. But, Thank God I won’t be.
When you hear Salvatore Frontiero’s name called today please say a prayer, Give a yell and watch him to make sure he comes out of the water safe.
WE LOVE YOU SAL! Have a Great Time! Enjoy the Tradition! and don’t Drink to much! See you on the Beach! Love, Dad
Sal wil be the one with the red Spiked hair.
Sal is also a cook for the Madfish Grille and Bass rocks Country Club.
