Dave says,

It’s a pleasure to have back those Saxophone rascals, the Razdan boys for another romp this Thursday nite. Last time around, we got snowed out. But it’s a go, now, and the A-Train Orchestra posse is back in town ready to poke you in the musical eye with their own brand of sizzling swing. There’s Dad, or Rikky, on  multiple contusions, son Alek right behind him on tenor and soprano saskatoon, aided by the capable  combo of Dan Whalen, on qatar, and Doc Vincent on  spin cycle. I’ll be on base, as usual. Hopefully some really slick dudes and their horns will show up to lubricate the proceedings. We shall see. Opening arguments at 8 pm. Bring your slide rule!

This Thursday night Dennis Brennan to play Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ The Rhumb Line. 8-11- 2.13.2014

dave bw

We’re joining a musical health club this week and exercising our synapses with that top ‘o the heap pied piper and malarky master, Mr. Dennis Brennan. No relation to Walter. Big D has turned out to be a favorite around these parts, causing swooning women and male consternation. He comes fully equipped with a fabulous set of pipes, a harmonica, and a repertoire so vast as to inspire nosebleeds. My favorite singer!

Dennis Brennan
Dennis Brennan

He’ll be backed by an all-star cast featuring Mr. Matt “Dillon” Stubbs, on catarrh, and  Broomful ‘o Blues drumpeter, Mr. Chris “Craft” Rivelli, a veritable powerhouse of the Blues foundry system.  Both Matt and Chris have travelled the world incessantly and extensively, spreading the word with the likes of James Cottontail, or Jerry Porntoy, or Roomful or is it somebody else? I can’t remember. But you won’t forget the incessant carnal pounding of the boogie beat as you suck down that sixth beer…. It’s gonna be a blast.! See ya there!

Dave Sag’s Blues Party tonight with Justin Quinn joining him @ The Rhumb Line 8-11~ 2.6.2014

It’s a double whammy for me this week as I get to do the do with Mr. Justin Quinn twice! That’s right, he’s my special guest this Thursday nite at  the Rhumby and I get to do it again on Sunday at Glenn’s in Nbpt.  Mr. Q. or “Sonny Boy III” as I refer to him is  the logical extension of both Mississippi saxophonists I and II schmeared with a heavy dollop of Li’l Walter thrown in with some Jameson’s Irate Whiskey for good measure. He sings, too, whilst allowing his sidemen to vent, like Vesuvius,  to the boogie beat. Beware of microbursts!

justin quinn
Sidemen include Mr. Jon Ross, Klonopin® King and razor-like Samurai, on catarrh and vocals, the calvous Mr. Paul Foss of Bangor, Me. , an old prison cellmate, on keyboards, Mr. Ephraim Lowell, late of Broomful of Blooze, on tintinabulators and me on base . You’ll wonder where the yellow went, when you brush your fate with Blooze-o-dent. Hours: 8 to 11.

Sunday at Glenn’s you can behave, since we start at 6pm (and go till 9), but I don’t recommend it as there will be great wailing and gnashing of teeth, or implants and veneers, since this is Nbpt. The food is great but the women are snobby, so stay home, guys, unless you have a portfolio!  When you clock this town with the stopwatch of history, it’s a different record every time.
Also, for those of you who are out of the job market, The good Old Salty Jazz Band holds sway next Monday at the Rose Baker (who is she?) Senior Center here in downtown Glou. from 1 to 3, next Monday, nap time for most of you. You could bring Jell-O or Wayfarin© Come dance to the urgent hits of the 1920’s to the 1940’s with the coolest musicians in the world. We’re concussion free and a few of us still have hair!!  BaDoom!

This week Johnny Carwash joins The Dave Sag’s Thursday Night Blues Party! 8 – 11pm 1.30.2014

dave bw

Dave says,

First, let me thank you all for allowing me to present the good Old Salty Jazz Band last week.It was a huge success. People were weeping in the aisles. Took me two days to recover. I think i’ll do it again this summer.
Now, back to reality. This week is yet another shootout at the ofay corral as we feature two ghastly titans of instrumental guitar, Mr. Bobby Davis, old Johnny Carwash himself,

Bob Davis bw2 and Mr. Billy Loosigian. Last time Bobby was here, the cleanup crew were wailing and gnashing their dentures for a week. Tore the place apart. Billy has been practicing his three chords necessary for the attainment of bliss for some time now and will prove to be the perfect shiny mirror to Bob’s succinct style. Jeff Casper, the friendly drumbler, will be on hand to answer any questions. I won’t have any answers. This is going to be big fun.
Don’t forget winter hours: 8 to 11. You can get 10 to life if you’re not careful.

Chris Stovall Brown to play the Blues Party tonight @ The Rhumb Line 8-11

dave sags color

Thank god Chris “Stovall” Brown is coming in this Thursday nite: it’s been a while since I had to deflect a whole boatload of  invective, innuendo and out the other. Chris, besides being a fabulous guitarist ,uvula-waggler, and eidetic librarian  of all things recordable, is simply a joy to work with. Plus, he makes me laugh. You may wet your pants watching this guy sing  whilst playing his axe with his dentures. I’m always amazed. Eardrum duties by  our fallow-headed buddy, Mr. Steevee Chaggaris. I’m on base. We’re keeping this a trio so that we can flood the stage next week with the likes of the Good Old Salty Jazz Band. Sex after menopause? I can’t remember….

Andrew Clark joins The Thursday night blues party @ The Rhumb Line this week 8-11…1.9.2014

dave bw Dave says,

This week we have returning that Tootin’ Torquemada of the Tenor, Mr. Andrew Clark. A.C., as he is often referred to, has just returned from a whirlwind tour of the Caucasus, sailing back by way of Varna with several huge boxes of his native soil aboard, finally settling down  at his Carfax® Abbey in Haverhill, Ma. The entire crew disappeared en route. The police may come.

andy clark

http://www.andrewclark.us/

But, seriously, folks, A.C. is a  master of musical chicanery, often twisting tuneful chestnuts into pretzels for your musical deportation. Quite a brain there, and always a surprise lurking in the corner pocket. He’ll be backed up by that jackhammer of a drummer, Mr. Roger Brocklebank, teacher and effusive retainer of lyrics to  songs you never thought you’d ever have to play. Even for money. Billy Loosigian, wearing chaps and spurs, will be twirling his guitar-like lasso hoping for top prize, and spitting thru his two front teeth. Lessons available. I’ll be off to the side, playing Renfield and  nibbling the wings off eighth notes and begging for mercy. It’s still 8 to 11, with time off for good behavior.
Also, for you of the underemployed persuasion, The good Old Salty Jazz Band is at bat next Monday  from 1 to 3.at the Rose Baker Senior Center next to Drunken Donuts downtown. Come on down and enjoy a bowl of Jello with the smart sounds of the Roaring Twenties. EMTs on duty. Don’t laugh: you’re closer than you think.
And as usual , Thank you all for your continued support. Just looked at my cobwebbed storage shelf, and it’s my eighth year at the Rhumb Line! I’ve been up all night and I’ve got proof! Where did the time (and my mind) go? What am I talking about?

Dave Sag’s post Christmas Blues Party 8-11@The Rhumb Line ~12.26.2013

dave bw

Before I even start, let me please thank you all for  very nice year of playing music and for allowing me to invade your brainstems weekly with potentially dangerous information. I wish you and yours the very nicest Holiday Season. and hope for many more!
Okay, now back to it: Our post-xMas healing process begins Thursday night with the arrival of Ms. Lydia Warren. This lady knocked the fillings out of my teeth at this summer’s Glou. Blues Festival. A wonderful songstress, vocalist and ornery guitarist,  she’ll have you cavorting and gavotting in the aisles, whatever that means. She’ll be bringing along her insignificant other, too, in the form of Mr. Matt Kelley, a dynamic and road-worthy guitarist, to fill in the blanks. Squeeks and other percussion by  that tonsorially-challenged Drumbo, Mr. Steevee Chaggaris. I will have gained 5 pounds.

lydia warren

And here are distant early warnings about upcoming events:
Jan.2 Rik and Alec Razdan with the A-minus orchestra, includes me. Come celebrate the beginning of suicide season!
Jan.9 Andrew Clark. The tootin’ Torquemada of the tenor is out to destroy your will!  Billy Loosigian rocks out!
Jan.16 Chris “Stovall” Brown and his tooth-biting glitar!
Jan.23 The Good Old Salty Jazz Band. We get encores at the Senior center all the time. Come see what you’ve been missing whilst you doze in your Barcalounger.
Jan.30 Johnny Carwash aka Bob Davis steps up to your upper plate and knocks your teeth out.  Pyrotechnics (again) by Billy Loosigian, who was forced to learn a jazz chord for this date. Instrumental and surf madness ensues.

Gordon Sax joins The Thursday night blues party tonight @ The Rhumb Line 8-11 ~ 12.19.2013

Dave Sag's
Dave Sag’s

 Dave says,

Well, this is it. The high point of my year. My therapist, me, warns me not to believe everything I think. I’m going with that one. And you should too. So, come out this Thursday to witness the Star in the East who’s gonna fall out of the sky and land on his ass just for you. Not Fred, I’m talking about that formidable pied piper Mr. Gordon “Sax” Beadle. Frontman, and master of the tenor honk-a-phonium, this guy is the drill sergeant of the blues. He’ll have you quaking and reaching for the brass ring all night long. Sax Gordon is my personal favorite blasting cap. Fire in the hole!!
But wait! There’s more. Knot only is Gordie on the bill, but also my favorite drumbler and comedy partner, Mr. Edd Scheer. Known for his incredible understanding of my random mutterings, Edd’s sure to raise your blood pressure by 30 PSI. We both suffer  from riposte traumatic stress disorder, leaving our incredible Qatarist, Mr. Mike DiBari, lurching in the wake of  the verbal tsunami. It’ll be the best night of the year! You’ll quake, you’ll shake, you’ll need  some kind of crutch. Bring Diaperine®.

Dave Sag’s Blues Party tonight with Dennis Brennan, Matt Stubbs and Chris Rivelli and dear Ol’ Dave @ The Rhumb Line tonight 8-11 12.12.2013

dennis brennan matt stubbs chris revelli

Dave says,

Let’s welcome the Boston Brain Trust back to Gloucester in the form of  the incandescent Dennis Brennan with his cohorts Matt Stubbs and Chris Rivelli. Another close shave with  three chords and the truth. Every time these guys show up, I feel like I’ve been reborn into a higher form of reptile! Someday, I won’t need the sun to make my aorta pop with rhythm. But for now,I’ll get out of the house before it’s too late. Put on your Keds and come out swinging.
Dennis, of the oleaginous windpipes and great collection of hats, is truly a master of the blues. Not only that, but of many other styles, too. Why am I telling you this?? You should already know!  His gunzel  Matt Stubbs has travelled the world  many times around backing up many famous cats. A sizzling guitarist, watch his fingers: now you see it, now you don’t. And Chris? Well, he’s the de facto Rheumful o’ Blooz agitprop, reedy to scramble your eggs with his whisking style.
Truly one of my favorite agglomerations, I can’t wait to see how it ends! Remember: Winter hours now 8 to 11
