My friend Colleen teaches the most wonderful children’s art classes from her Montessori Art Kitchen in East Gloucester. I can’t wait until our granddaughter is old enough to participate! Thank you to Colleen for sharing these lovely photos of works in progress, the perfect anecdote to a rainy April afternoon!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOTUS JOY!
A SIMPLY SPECTACULAR TURNOUT FOR ART HAVEN’S FAMILY FUN AND BUOY AUCTION!
Andrew Luman, Schuylar Corbett, and RubyĀ Lyman
Cruiseport was filled to overflowingĀ withĀ the joyful sounds of children laughing and parents socializing, all there to join in the fun of Art Haven’s 8th Annual Buoy Auction. The hundreds of buoys hand painted by local childrenĀ were displayed in a fresh new layout with a “Haven Walk” surrounding the perimeter.
Andrew Luman did a fantastic job as the auctioneer and emceeĀ (with Emily Bean above)
For the silent auction, beautiful buoy creations were donated by some of the most talented local artists.

Art Haven’s Buoy Auction is truly a community event in every sense of the wordĀ ~
Special thanks wereĀ noted in the program to the lobstermen who loaned the traps, Peter Mondello, Bob Morris, Chris Orcsillo, and Scott Horne. Sheree ZizikĀ once again generously donated Cruiseport, delicious food was provided by local restaurants and shops, and many area businesses donated buoy supplies, transportation, and event promotion. Thanks too was given to all who helped construct the Lobster Trap Tree, with thanks to the buoy auction committee, and a very special thanks to Traci-Thayne Corbett and Karen Conant.

Happy 65th Wedding Anniversary!

Can you imagine–sixty five years–truly an inspiration!
June 24th wasĀ my mother and father-in-laws 65th wedding anniversary. We’ve been celebrating all week and last night weĀ had a beautiful dinner at Duckworth’s, ourĀ family’s go-to place for special occasions (and every other excuse to head to dinner there). Dinner was beautiful in every way,Ā from theĀ exquisiteĀ entrees,Ā appetizers, and desserts to the outstanding service provided byĀ Dan and Colleen. Thank you Duckworth Family for making our family’s celebration wonderfullyĀ memorable.
Here we are in Cincinnati on May 5th this past spring celebrating my father-in-laws NINETIETH birthday. He and his best friend Steve Marvin, also 90, have been friends since they were babies.
Note the cake decorated withĀ a train scene. My father-in-law has been passionate about trains since he was a toddler, to the extent that he and his friend Bob Richardson founded the Colorado Railroad Museum, which is located in Golden Colorado.
The Gloucester Clam’s Jim Dowd EP Lit House Event at Duckworth’s
Last night Jim Dowd led a fascinating discussion on Neal Stephenson’s book Snow Crash, considered toĀ be one of the best in the cyberpunk subgenre of science fiction writing.
Lawrence Penson,Ā editor of Nova Express describes cyberpunk,Ā “Classic cyberpunk characters were marginalized, alienated loners who lived on the edge of society in generally dystopic futures where daily life was impacted by rapid technological change, an ubiquitous datasphere of computerized information, and invasive modification of the human body.”
Stevens Brosnihan explains how to use Oculus Rift, a virtual reality head-mounted display, on loan from Ocean’s Alliance. Read more about Oculus Rift at The Gloucester Clam here.

A Duckworth’s Valentine’s
Sweet Valentine’s inspired cappuccino made by Michelle
Thanks to the fabulous Chef Ken Duckworth,Ā along withĀ his wonderfully welcoming and hard working staff, for making a Valentine’s to remember.Ā Duckworth’s was overflowing with guests last night–no one wanted to leave as it was so warm and cozy there–and Tom and IĀ just had the best time catching up with neighborhood friends. We allĀ relished in our good fortuneĀ to be seated at the Duckworth’s Table for Valentine’s Day.Ā Thank you Chef Ken and FamilyĀ for the Best Ever Valentine’s Day Dinner!
Chef Ken’s Sublime Lobster RisottoĀ ~ Tip:Ā order the full serving andĀ eat halfĀ (not to worry, the portions are hugely generous). Eat the other half for lunch the following day–doublyĀ delish! Apologies please, myĀ grainyĀ phoneĀ photos don’t do this favoriteĀ dish justice.
#Blizzard2015 Digging Out!
Colleen Apostolos Digging Out!
It’s a Glorious Morning! Although I did crash after only taking ten steps from our door and, not realizing it, got water spots all over my camera’s lens. EveryĀ photo had to be de-spotted prior to uploading. I hope I didn’t missĀ any spots.

Colleen Apostolos Does Murals
Colleen creates beautiful children’s murals. Here’s one she did for my beannie. Best part is when she listens to what the child would like and they interact so the children take ownership of what is being created.
Thanks so much Colleen. (She also teaches children art classes at Island Art and Hobby)
