Cape Ann 350 Climate Action Event – Man at the Wheel, Gloucester

24 October 2009 – 1:00pm – 2:00pm

A gathering of local citizens to make a statement a statement about the need to stabilize atmospheric CO2 concentrations at 350, and take actions to reduce our own emissions.

We will meet at 1pm on Sat. Oct, 24th for a picture around the famous “Old Salt” fisherman’s memorial statue in Gloucester, MA.

The organizers will provide a “350” banner as well as other relevant signs to get the message across in our picture(s).

In addition, we plan to reach out to local press, political groups and local interest groups to raise awareness and catalyze climate action locally, as well as support for climate policy nationally and internationally.

For all of you in Gloucester, on Cape Ann, or around the North Shore of Boston, please join us Sat. Oct 24th at 1pm at the Fisherman’s Statue!!

Where Zat? #28

This week’s Where Zat may be too simple for those of you who know this area. But it could be difficult because it’s kind of generic. Anyone know for sure?

Have fun! And thanks for playing Where Zat for the last 4 months!DSC_7045 [640x480]

Where Zat? #22

dsc_7825-640x480This one’s tough. I would never have known where it was if I hadn’t seen it recently. Think Cape Ann. Good luck and I’ll give hints if necessary! As always, thanks for playing!

Where Zat? #18

where-zat-18

We’ve had this little contest going for 18 weeks! All through the winter into the SPRING!!

Last week this comment from Joe (not Joey C.): “Those that picked the Public Ramp behind GHS got it correct, from my view. Have lived on the river all my life, and that Great Blue is taking off from an old pile, that has been there the entire time.”

Can you figure out where this week’s location is? Not far off the beaten path?

Thanks for playing! Good luck!

Kindermusik for the younger kids

Wendy Hyatt of Rockport runs a Kindermusik program that gives children and their parents learning experiences based on movement and music for newborns to preschoolers. She was the previous owner of the Rainbow Day School in Rockport. This looks like a great way to introduce children to music and rhythm as well as meeting other families. You can find out more information on my blog for Cape Ann families at Flapping like a Haddock!

Helen Parker Textiles Childrens Sweaters

Beautiful Children sweaters at Helen Parker Textiles Booth at The Farmer’s Market.  Don’t worry if you don’t make it down to the Farmer’s Market for the last one on October 10th, Helen Parker Textiles is located at 67 Broadway, right after the five corners in Rockport, on the right in a red building with painted awnings (on your way towards downtown).

Beautiful stuff.

Beth Williams Studio

Colored glass rods line the back wall of Beth Williams Studio.  These colored glass rods will be used to make the unique pieces that Beth produces.

I imagine that if you are not extremely well organized this place could turn ito an unmanageable mess in a hurry but Beth keeps everything in colorful order.

You walk into the place and it’s like a huge color orgy.

If you recall, Beth was the winner of the Downtown Merchants GMG Flower Box Competition. For her participation and taking home first place she will be awarded a week long spread in these pages. A well deserved expose if you will.
