Minglewood Now Open for Lunch on Mondays

Minglewood Harborside on Rogers Street recently announced that they will be open for lunch on Mondays so we went right down to check it out. We were NOT disappointed!! Several other customers joined us in the early part of the afternoon for lunchtime goodness. I ordered the smoked chicken tacos and Jim got a Cobb Salad with blackened chicken. Perfect lunchtime treat. Very excited to see this news, especially since it’s Margarita Monday season!

Quarry Dance X Release April 24th and Over Halfway There To $25K Match

Quarry Dance X: The Film Premiere is being launched online on Zoom on Sunday, April 24 at 7:00PM.

The Zoom premiere is free to attend. RSVP for this event.

Cape Ann’s signature dance event, Quarry Dance X: The Film, is set to premiere on April 24, 2002 on Zoom at 7:00PM. The film features Dušan Týnek Dance Theatre dancers filmed at two private Cape Ann quarries during the summer of 2021. This 36-minute film, produced by Lisa Hahn, Executive Director of Windhover and filmed by Anders Johnson, features original music composed by Joe Mulholland. Joe is a Professor of Harmony/Jazz Composition at Berklee School of Music in Boston, MA, and this marks his first time composing music for the quarry dance. The Zoom premiere is free to attend. RSVP for this event. Although the event is free – please consider making a donation to Windhover in order to help sustain the creative work of artists at Windhover. Please join us on April 24th.

Other exciting news: Over Halfway There To $25K Match: Please help Windhover raise the rest of the $25K Match. We need $10,500 more by June 30th!

I’m thrilled to report that our last update raised an additional $9500 on top of the already received donation of $5,000 toward the expansion and modernization of the Windhover restrooms. This $25K matching grant allows Windhover to complete a much-needed expansion and update to its restrooms, modernizing them, and adding an ADA accessible restroom so that everyone can enjoy performances at Windhover. 

Please make a donation today in any amount. 

There are no extensions for this $25K matching grant. I am hoping that all of you will be able to contribute even a small amount. As a thank you, we are planning a Donor Appreciation Day this summer to share in the communal spirit of Windhover and to experience these expanded upgrades with you in person. “Operation Head West, Young Men” Day #1

Slept for about five hours at a little hotel between the Las Vegas airport and the strip and woke ready to tackle our first full day of adventures…. or so we thought. By 8:45 pm we were spent and everyone was sound asleep except me…. and only because I wanted to write this post. We drove from Vegas to the Hoover Dam, up Route 40 for two hours, onto the iconic Route 66 and into Williams, AZ. Our adorable airbnb sits right across from the Grand Canyon railway and within walking distance to lots of cute shops and restaurants. By no means a bustling city with nightlife, but super cute in it’s own way. We let the boys fish on Kaibab Lake, had some drinks on our deck and then got dinner at the local brewery and barrel house….Where we immediately ran into someone from Gloucester. If you’re reading this, Jacqueline, I hope the rest of your trip is amazing!

Toddler in Town

When you are entertaining visitors, there are numerous activities and restaurants you can suggest. (I’m thinking of Nichole’s recent post asking for suggestions). When one of those visitors is a toddler, you start to look differently at some of the “standard” suggestions. The weather’s temperament and the child’s temperament must align for the most successful outings. We had a few of those last week and I’d like to share some of the ideas in case it helps you out in any way.

We visited Good Harbor Beach where the baby bee-lined to the ocean like a baby turtle seeking the water. Then plopped down at the edge of the cold water and surprised himself. (*So, be prepared with extra clothes). We stopped at Toodleoo’s for tea and toys. Sweats of New England had a cool sidewalk sign to tempt children and their fingers. We made a stop at Minglewood to meet family…always a hit. Pasta at Tonno also made for happy faces.

You might say “It’s a toddlin’ town…” and you would be right! I hope you all enjoy any holiday or vacation visitors to our fair city.
