Tax Free weekend set

Mass. ‘tax-free’ weekend set for Aug. 13-14

This year, the sales tax holiday in Massachusetts will be taking place on Saturday, Aug. 13, and Sunday, Aug. 14. Though gas and food won’t be part of the items that qualify as part of the sales tax holiday, there are plenty of retail items you can scoop up and get a great deal on. If you’re thinking about purchasing new furniture, computers/electronic devices, clothing, bedding, tools, lawn/yard items, home theater, books, and more, you may want to plan on buying some of these items on the sales tax holiday weekend in Massachusetts. It’s worth noting that according to mass.gov, sales tax will be exempt on eligible retail items for personal use and those items must be $2,500 or less.

The Scene

For those of you who haven’t seen it, here is a quick video of just about 1/2 of the scene at the backside of Wingaersheek Beach. Click on this post to see more. I started filming half way down the beach unfortunately. Those who have spent a day there by boat know it well. The constant shifting of lines and anchors, the battle for the beach, the shifting tides and sometimes fast currents. If, however, you catch a day when the crowds are more quiet…it can be a pretty perfect way to spend a day! This particular Saturday, we decided to avoid it all for a more peaceful place just a little ways away.

Temporary Essex Bridge Now Open

You probably have heard that the temporary Rt 133 bridge in Essex has opened. Although a bit narrow, it appears to be working to keep traffic moving unless there’s a wide vehicle making the attempt despite signage prohibiting such traffic.

Puncture-proof, spiked Coyote Vest

After a scary, too-close, daytime encounter with a coyote on Rocky Neck, I got my dog Jeffrey a puncture-proof, spiked Coyote Vest (with a rainbow of fake “whiskers” to confuse the coyote) to wear on his walks by the water.

These amazing vests were created by a couple in California to overcome their grief after seeing their own dog snatched and killed by a Coyote.

Thought you might find it interesting and crazy funny to look at, too!

Ways to Beat the Heat– patmorss

The extended heat wave finally made it to New England, so here are a few suggestions for staying cool.

Turn on the fan
Fish at night
Take a Harbor Tour around the Cape
Or experience a bracing breeze on schooner Advanture
If you are a leaf, you can throw in the towel and declare it’s autumn
If you are a flower, you can pretend everything is just fine
Over on Niles Pond, walk slowly, drink lots of water, and enjoy the pool
Hyper-ventilate if it gets really bad
Hold the Blackburn Challenge around Cape Ann, even if other events are canceling
After all, it’s cooler out on the water
In a hurry? Reverse the 20+ mile Blackburn course in about 20 minutes

I should have been a motivational speaker.

This is how the day started with McCarthy wavering on making the Manchester breakfast rip and me coming over the top with undeniable logic:

Once I had McCarthy fully committed to the morning breakfast boat ride to Manch-Vegas, after that it was just a straight up glorious summer day.

Tied Up At The Manchester Town Dock Using The Dockwa App and then walked up the ramp to Allie’s Beach Street Cafe for an incredible breakfast.

Then we hopped on my boat to head to Frankie McKitchen and the Caruso’s Christmas In July

Then houseboat life where we ate CJ’s incredible Tuna poke which Natalie caught just yesterday, Joe B’s Lamb pops and some schmuck brought a pile of lobsters.

Ended up coming home in the dark completely satisfied with an epic epic day

2022 Reid’s Ride 18th Fundraiser Update of website

From FOB Karen Pischke

Hello.

I am sharing this email that was sent from Lorraine Sacco –  After 2 years of being a virtual event, this year Reid’s Ride’ is in-person once again; a 28 mile cycling from Lynnfield HS to Stage Fort Park in Gloucester MA.

Please follow link below:

https://www.ayacanceralliance.org

Our ‘Dream Team’ has been participating since 2012, as volunteers, cyclists and donors. It is an event that is hugely energizing and a grass-roots family run organization who have given so much to so many, from their heart; the Sacco Family. Even ‘sharing’ Lorraine’s posts, our posts on FB and Instagram helps get the word out.

Reid’s Ride is the main fundraising for Reid R. Sacco AYA cancer alliance.

https://www.ayacanceralliance.org

They also have an annual run and sailing regatta. Here is a video demonstrating what they have achieved.

Volunteering time and/or money is a lot to ask of people who have many commitments in their lives. Before I register for this year, I wanted to first check to see how many of you are available and wanting to participate, and for which level of contribution (volunteering at the Stage Fort Park Wellness Tent, cycling the 28 miles (live or virtually) and/or donating. When the event went ‘virtual,’ our team expanded across the country and even internationally!

Thank you all, for your past participation and for considering participating this year!

Let me know if you can join me, and in what role you might be able to participate with our Dream Team 2022 –

  • Reiki Provider/ Massage / Yoga / Acupuncture / Reflexology / Aromatherapy / Other?
  • Cyclist  (on the day of Reid’s Ride; OR  the Saturday before with some of us riding, as we’ll be staffing/working the tent on Sunday)
  • Volunteer day of at the tent
  • Donate (any time)

Jo-Anne Gibely and John Leonard will be representing the ‘Dream Team’ this year from France, riding 100 miles

in the Tour de Mont Blanc! Have a great ride Jo-Anne and John!! Bonne chance!!

Thank you all, for considering supporting Reid’s Ride, now in its 18th year of supporting adolescents and young adults with cancer, through research for better treatments and support services, helping people ‘survive and thrive’

One of their patients recently added reiki to their regime; finding it helpful for decreased anxiety and improved mood. They report feeling calmer as they go through treatments, and are experiencing greater levels of hope.

Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has.” ~ Margaret Mead  The grassroots efforts of the Sacco Family are a great example of this.

Enjoy today,

Karen
