Have Cat? Will Travel With AstroCats Feline Lounge

We recently visited AstroCats Cosmic Feline Lounge at 65 Eastern Ave Essex (same plaza as Blue Marlin and Cape Ann Pizza) to see what was what over there. Alissa was a wonderful hostess and introduced us to her 2 year old business watching over felines of all shapes and sizes. If you have a cat, you may find a need for her services for daycare or travel or whatever and her place appears to be just the ticket. She and her partner Matthew ( also at Googans Galley on Martin St in Essex) obviously care very much for the health and safety of their feline clients. There are a number of screened off small rooms lined with generously sized crate-style temporary homes with enough room for about 2 dozen visitors. The entire place is decorated to suit their needs including TVs running bird and nature shows with soothing music. If you’re wondering if this might work for you, give a call and check it out 978-890-5177

Meatball challenge tickets for tasting/voting $10,  gets the first 100 people an opportunity to taste each entrant’s meatballs and register a vote for best meatball.

Meatball entries shall be for traditional Italian meatballs.  Not vegan bullshit, not Sweedish meatballs, not some wierdo meatball variant.  Traditional Italian meatballs in sauce.

Each entrant will bring meatballs at 6PM and will be furnished a large tin and meatballs will be judged by blind tasting- each tin will be numbered but voters will not know which meatballs belong to each entrant.

We will furnish a first second and third place price and there will be a door prize among the 100 voters.

Our first 2023 Hummingbird!

Since the challenge was thrown down regarding who might document the first hummingbird sighting, I’d like to submit the following (not great) cell photos from yesterday on our deck. But, no photos–no proof, so here you go. I should have known this would happen the minute I decided to leave the camera in the car because we were heading back out shortly…… it was nice to return to the dock with most of the gang for yesterday’s podcast AND the hummingbirds returned yesterday too. I don’t think it was a coincidence. I expect to improve on these photos as the season goes along.

Gloucester’s Public Library to be Cape Ann’s First Fossil Free Public Building

The Sawyer Free Library’s Board of Trustees is proud to announce that the renovated and expanded Library, set to open in 2025, will be the first public building on Cape Ann that generates renewable energy from solar and uses no fossil fuels for the building’s site energy. The 2025 Sawyer Free Library will serve as a leading example for the City of Gloucester and the Commonwealth in designing and operating a building for efficient consumption and generation of energy and water.

“The 2025 Sawyer Free Library makes Gloucester a leader in sustainable and renewable energy efforts. It is the first public building on Cape Ann serviced by an all-electric heat pump system powered by onsite renewable energy and puts Gloucester in the top 1% of public libraries across the Commonwealth,”stated the City of Gloucester Mayor
