Over the years, Chorus North Shore has worked with local area schools to promote choral singing by inviting students to sing with us for credit, and by offering scholarships for graduating seniors who plan to further their interest in music. But, our strategic plan required a more focused approach toward educational outreach.
As a community arts organization, we are particularly sensitive to the cutbacks in funding and support that have steadily eroded the music programs in schools throughout the North Shore. The Honors Youth Choir of Chorus North Shore is a fully funded program allowing children aged 10 through high school the opportunity to learn and perform choral masterworks along with Chorus North Shore, and present extraordinary concerts on their own.
By establishing The Honors Youth Choir of Chorus North Shore, we are able to accomplish several goals for Chorus North Shore:
The Honors Youth Choir is selected by audition. The students range from ages 10 through high school, and must attend scheduled rehearsals and concerts. The Chorus North Shore artistic director, Sonja Dahlgren Pryor and associate conductor, Mary Sepich bring their experience as life long educators and musicians to the planning and development of this special group.
The folks at Old Sloop took the summer off, but are back in the concert business with a bang this Friday presenting one of the most celebrated Boston-based songwriters alive today, Ellis Paul with Berklee’s Susan Cattaneo opening.
You can often get Old Sloop tickets at the door, but that’s not likely for this one. So you might as well get them here (plus you’ll save $4). Check out the performer videos below!
Dear Joey,
A good friend of Gloucester and Good Morning suggested I send my poem to you.
My best,
BZ Niditch
On full high tide
ocean voices
in a slight breeze
are never forgotten
by slanting shadows
splashing the tides
of childhood memory
breathing in the sea
by hand fulls of waves
near sand castles
on dawn blankets
of a consumed sun,
never too late for a swim
one more time.

Here’s our Tony putting on a photo bombing clinic right here.
See? This is how you run for School Committee!
Publicity city baby. Flat out owning the focus of this picture. Can’t take your eyes off Tony’s commanding presence.
He’s a photobombing monster, an absolute monster.
I’d say Tony’s photo is about a hundred times more effective campaign-wise than our super good buddy Hannah Kimberley who couldn’t possibly have read my January 21, 2012 post on portrait taking-

Otherwise this never would have happened-

Hannah you straight up have my personal permission to kick Craig straight away in the nuts. When he asks you why you did that, show him this post
This is how I picture Hannah- with that warm smile-

Listen up kids. DONT be the fucking idiot taking pills. Not one. Not ever.
If you can’t have fun in your late teens and twenties without popping pills I seriously feel sorry for you.
That’s like best time of your life shit, DONT go mess it up.
With all the activities we have in this wonderful community, I think the Schooner Festival is my favorite. Just beautiful.
2:30 PM Labor Day and while we bless our unions for the 40 hour work week and getting this day off there is one more thing to think about. As of 2:30 PM today summer is over. I know, I know, you’re going to the beach a bunch more times but it’s time to start thinking about fall.
Fall: Pumpkins, and apple picking, and the second striper season, and looking at the stars without swatting mosquitoes, and now my new favorite fall activity, stuffing your sausage. Sue stuffed mine three different ways:
Top left: Kielbasa, top right: Chorizo, and center: sweet Italian sausage. It looked really easy! (Why did you just smack me Sue?) We have one of those monster Kitchen Aide mixers with the grinder attachment. Step One: (I love this part) go into Market Basket and ask the butcher, “You got any hog casings?” The other fun new saying I have is, “You stuff ’em, I’ll smoke ’em!”
Those kielbasas needed smoking:
There is an easy way to tie your kielbasa off so they hang nicely. Next time I’ll do it that way. Out of the smoker, don’t they look purty?
Take home message after trying all three: this is worth doing. Not because you save a bunch of money although buying a huge picnic shoulder and turning it into these tasty sausages rounds out to about a buck a pound. It’s worth it because they are yummy and it is legal in Massachusetts to stuff your own sausage.
Ten quarts of ‘Belle of Georgia’ peaches from one little peach tree, peeled, blanched, and freezer-ready for yummy pies and smoothies during the winter months.
