ST. JOHN’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH will be presenting Godspell, Jr. on November 14th – 16th.  Co-directed by St. John’s staff members Jay DiPrima (director of youth ministry) and Mark Nelson (Music Director), the cast features a group of young talented performers from Gloucester, Rockport and Manchester.
Based on The Gospel According to St. Matthew, the musical uses major episodes in the life of Jesus – including his baptism, the Last Supper, his arrest and crucifixion – to explore important ideas like compassion, love, forgiveness and sacrifice for the greater good. The show draws on various theatrical traditions and musical styles, including pantomime, charades, acrobatics, vaudeville, folk and rock to create a unique reflection on the parables of Jesus.
The role of Jesus (and assistant director) will be played by Jack Favazza whose performances are well known in Gloucester and at the North Shore Music Theatre. The double role of John the Baptist/Judas will be played by Tess Burnham whose talents have also been displayed at the stages of O’Maley, GHS and currently Bishop Fenwick. Both Jack and Tess perform a number of solo songs as well as a powerhouse duet (All for the Best). The other thespians share both soloist and ensemble roles – Cara Stockman (Day by Day), Hanna Conlon (Learn Your Lessons Well), Gabrielle Cros (All Good Gifts), Jillian Osmond (Oh Bless the Lord my Soul) and Kaylee Parker. Choreographed by Carson afklinteberg, the dances reflect a joyful and upbeat story theatre approach.
All tickets ($10.00) can be purchased or reserved by e-mailing or calling Betsy Levick, Parish Administrator – betsy@stjohnsgloucester.org or 978 – 283 – 1708 ext. 14. Tickets can also be purchased at the door twenty minutes before each performance.
(All proceeds will be used exclusively for future children and youth programs)
All performances will be held in the beautiful sanctuary of St. John’s Episcopal Church at 48 Middle St, Gloucester, MA.  Parking is available in our lot at 33 Washington St.

Cape Ann TV with Henry Cooper

Henry Cooper ©Kim Smith 2014A tremendous turnout today for Henry Cooper’s presentation on Adobe Premiere!

Marty Luster, James Eaves, Lisa Griffiths (That Nutty Redhead), John Grant, Kathy Chapman, and Charlie Caroll were just some of the guests attending Henry’s well-presented tutorial. Henry comes from a background of using Final Cut, Avid, and Adobe, which made his take especially informative and interesting on the (mostly) pros of using Adobe Premiere.

I’d love to hear from our readers on their experience with different editing programs, and why they chose the system they most frequently work with.

Bring on the Rain – I Know Where I’m Going

KingEider3153wm

I considered posting a gloomy photo of rain running down a window pane. That could be depressing and sappy, but it’s not my style. When rain and storms block in the way, don’t slow down, stay the course. Move forward to where you want to go. During a rainy Gloucester Schooner Race, Captain Steve Douglass looks ahead, consults his charts, and sees beyond the rain. I do not look at the rain dripping down the glass, but rather navigate as Captain Douglass does: Carry on toward your destination. I welcome the impending rain.

Love this idea

What a great idea, they should bring the goats out to Ten Pound Island to eat the poison ivy.  Goats love poison ivy. To read please follow the link below from the Gloucester Daily Times.

Gallagher’s Farewell Tour visits Beverly’s Larcom Theater on October 25th

gallagher fb Collage final

M.E. Productions presents comedian Gallagher for the last time at the Larcom Theatre.
“Rolling Stone Magazine” calls the famous watermelon smasher, “One of the greatest comics of all time.”
He pioneered the television stand-up comedy special, racking up 14 Showtime specials during the height of his career in the 80s.  Gallagher also captured headlines as a candidate for governor in the freewheeling 2003 California recall election. In one of his campaign appearances, he lamented the state of the nation’s collective IQ. “Don’t you wish there were a knob on the TV to turn up the intelligence?” he asked. “There’s one marked ‘brightness,’ but it doesn’t work.”
Gallagher’s stage show has evolved over the years, and he now interacts more with his audiences. People from the crowd are often invited up on stage to share in the fun.  One thing that hasn’t changed, though, is Gallagher’s reputation as an audience-friendly performer who genuinely enjoys his gigs.  He always takes extra time to sign autographs and pose for pictures with every fan in theater lobbies before and after performing.
Tickets to see Gallagher’s Farwell Tour are $29, $39, and $44.  For tickets and more information visit www.larcomtheater.com  or call 978-525-9093.

Parents of USTA Juniors Invited to Strategy Session with Hall of Fame Tennis Coach

This week, Nick Bollettieri—professional tennis’s outspoken, passionate, fearless and inspirational coach—will visit the Manchester Athletic Club’s MAC Tennis Program, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Regional Training Center of New England.

On Thursday, October 23, Bollettieri will host a parent session at Manchester Athletic Club’s tennis facility at 6:30pm. The session is free and open to all parents of USTA New England tournament players. Space is limited to the first 60 parents who call for a reservation.

During his annual visit to the club whose tennis program he helped design 12 years ago, Bollettieri will also give private and group lessons, as well as host a 10-and-under Green and Orange Ball Day on Saturday, October 24, from 12:00-2:30pm, and High Performance Tennis Academy Days on Saturday from 2-5pm and Sunday, October 25, from 9am-12pm.
Bollettieri recently received the highest honor in tennis when he was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, earlier this year. He has coached ten #1 players in the world including Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Martina Hingis, Jelena Jankovic, Marcelo Rios, Monica Seles, Maria Sharapova, and Venus and Serena Williams—as well as the current #6 player in the world, Kei Nishikori..

“Our affiliation with Nick gives us some high-level opportunities, said Todd Carpenter, Director of Tennis at Manchester Athletic Club. We’re fortunate to be able to extend this invitation to our tennis members, as well as the USTA junior community and their parents.
For additional information on Nick Bollettieri’s parent session and other weekend activities, contact Todd Carpenter, Director of Tennis, at Manchester Athletic Club: 978-526-8900 ext. 238 or tcarpenter@mactennis.com.
Manchester Athletic Club is located in Manchester by-the-Sea, MA, and is the only USTA Training Center in New England and only one of 12 USTA Regional Training Centers in the country. MAC is also home to New England’s professional tennis team, The Boston Lobsters.
