It has been decades since the ring of the 100 ton drop forge has been heard at the Cape Ann Tool Company. It took most of 2013 to get the smokestack down. Now it is time to dream about what will go behind the five doors.

My wish list:

1) A restaurant: Northern India plus Seafood. Greg Bover wants it named “The Tan Dory”. Or Mexican Seafood. “The Pigeon Cove Taco”. This will include a bar which does not require ordering a Cove Burger in order to be served a Fisherman’s IPA.

2) Coffee Shop and Bakery: fresh coffee and a bagel. Opens at 6 AM and imports Brother’s Brew Butternut Crunch Doughnuts.

3) Village Market: loaf of bread, butter, potatoes, onions, six pack of beer, Cape Pond Ice, scratch tickets, Allen’s Coffee Brandy.

4) Tackle Shop: bait, rods to rent for kids to catch a flounder behind the store, T-Shirts from Cape Pond Ice.

5) Art Studio: Art CO-OP, all media, pottery, ceramics, Rockport Art Association North Colony.

What’s on your wish list? A fresh seafood market? In-N-Out Burger? Uniqlo?

The Cape Ann Museum is pleased to present Historic Middle Street, a guided walking tour of one of Gloucester’s many historically rich streets, on Saturday, June 20 at 10:00 a.m. The tour meets at the Cape Ann Museum at 27 Pleasant Street and lasts about 1 1/2 hours. Tours are held rain or shine. Cost is $10 for Cape Ann Museum members; $20 nonmembers (includes Museum admission). Space is limited, reservations required. The Cape Ann Museum is pleased to welcome John and Betty Erkkila for an illustrated presentation and book signing on Saturday, June 20 at 10:30 a.m. The Erkkilas will present a selection of images from their new book, Souvenirs of Pigeon Cove. Copies of the book will be available for purchase in the Museum Shop and the authors will be available to sign copies following the presentation.

Three little chicks chillin’ in our nest!

Some of you have asked for updates on our little eggs and the feathered interloper who has found its way into the House Sparrow nest in our front porch hanging plant.

If you’re not sure of the background information, check out the post HERE!

We started with a nervous momma bird who would bolt each time we entered/exited our little house.

Soon enough we realized that there was a perfect little nest inside our hanging plant with four small eggs….and one larger one.

We discovered the larger egg belonged to an “Interloper”…in this case a Cowbird.

Just a couple of days after the discovery, the baby cowbird hatched.

Somewhere along the way the four house sparrow eggs dwindled slightly to just three! No trace of the egg shell anywhere.  Weird.

The momma house sparrow began taking care of the newly hatched chick…who clearly hatched from an egg deposited into her nest…by a totally different bird!

The update comes here…

A couple of days later, there are now also two much smaller babies in the nest.  For now, the three birds are snuggling together nicely and all seems OK in their world.

Will the peace continue??  I sure hope so!

Tompson St Norcross Parking Concord St 2015

Gloucester has tremendous amounts of woodlands that residents enjoy including several City-owned areas in West Gloucester. Essex County Greenbelt recently built a better trail gateway to the Tompson Street Reservation off Concord Street. Similar trail gateways improvements are under consideration for trails on City-owned land in West Gloucester.

Ward 5 Councillor Bill Fonvielle, Charlie Crowley and the rest of the Gloucester Open Space & Recreation Committee invite the public to attend a community forum to discuss plans to improve hiking trail entry trailheads in West Gloucester. The forum will focus on locations on Forest Lane, Laurel Street and Essex Avenue (leading to Fernwood Lake). Plans include adding signs and improving parking. During the Schooner Challenge last Monday, June 9, 2015, (which was fantastic, BTW) a mysterious drone flew out over us! I’ve attached two images from the wrap movie that I’ll be getting to you today or tomorrow. 

Whose Drone was it? 

And the bigger question – where were they flying it from? 

We were way out in the Harbor!

Do nice guys finish last?

Let’s face it, not all gals like a “bad boy” and not all gals like “wicked super nice guy”. I like guys that are a little bit of both. (well my husband is at least) This concept is so easy for us gals to understand but guys just don’t get it.

Obviously ladies love compliments from their guy but can it ever be too much? Nothing wrong with a guy saying in front of a group of friends “look how HOT my lady is today” Thats cute but when does it become over kill? Some guys think it’s never too much.

I for one, think at certain point it will no longer sound genuine.

The leader of Boston’s legendary Either/Orchestra, Russ Gershon will be on saxophones, flute and piano joined by bassist Blake Newman (Lizard Lounge poetry band, Revolutionary Snake Ensemble, Agachiko) and drummer Oscar Suchanek (Either/Orchestra) for an evening of soulful jazz. The program will include Sonny Rollins’ seldom-heard Freedom Suite, Charles Mingus’ Meditations on Integration and music by Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Gershon and others. People Really Eat This Stuff?

Why do people eat Mushrooms?

I never understood it. There’s no taste to them they only suck up the flavors they’re cooked in.

I personally think they’re are disgusting looking. Not a fan of the texture.

I will only eat them if there is no way to pick them out of food they’re cooked with.

Maybe GMG will have a Mushroom cook off. Then maybe someone can change my small mind.

Below there are some photos of a mini mushroom farm my son bought.

It’s easy to do and it’s funny watching them grow everyday. They grow very fast.

They’re called “Oyster Mushrooms” so if your into eating these disgusting things I’m sure you’ll enjoy them.
