GLOUCESTER, Mass. (June 24, 2015) – The Cape Ann Museum is pleased to present Fitz Henry Lane’s Gloucester, a guided walking tour, on Saturday, June 27 at 10:00 a.m. Explore downtown Gloucester and discover what it was like in the 19th century when Fitz Henry Lane roamed the streets and painted the views. Tours last about one and a half hours and are held rain or shine. Participants should be comfortable being on their feet for that amount of time. Cost is $10 for Cape Ann Museum members; $20 for nonmembers (includes Museum admission). Space is limited and reservations are required. Email info@capeannmuseum.org or call (978) 283-0455, x10 for more information or to reserve a space.

Fitz Henry Lane was a Cape Ann artist, printmaker and world-renowned American marine painter. With his subtle use of gleaming light, Lane is generally regarded as one of the finest 19th century practitioners of the style known as luminism. The Cape Ann Museum’s unparalleled collection of works by Fitz Henry Lane – which includes paintings, drawings and lithographs – is on permanent display in the gorgeously renovated Lane Gallery, a space fully devoted to Lane’s life and work.

Hi Joey,
How you got the shot of the coyote I will never know but I am impressed.  Sunday night a coyote crossed the road in front of our car (apparently he was going to Good Harbor beach).  Tuesday a different coyote cut in front of us near Niles pond. Both were gone in a flash!
St. Peter’s Festival is a wonderful tradition. Thank you for sharing.
Here is our Annisquam sunset from Tuesday.

41.2828 N, 70.0994 W…. also Known as Nantucket

I’m not going to lie, I get asked each June why we pick up and leave Rockport as soon as school gets out to travel to Nantucket.  If you know me, you know that I’m a huge cheerleader for Cape Ann….or as we’ve come to call it amongst our group of friends “God’s Country.”  I LOVE Gloucester and Rockport.  I look forward to long, lazy summers more than anyone.  That having been said, there is something just unbelievably perfect about kicking off our summer on the island of Nantucket.  If you’ve traveled there, you may know what I’m talking about.  While there are certainly some similarities between Rockport and Nantucket….there is something undeniably quintessential, pristine, and just “right” about our little week at 41.2828 N, 70.0994 W.

As we finish stripping linens, emptying the refrigerators, scanning the yard for toys and sporting goods…and prepare to head out to the 12:00 ferry back to the mainland, I can’t help but be sad…but, yet really excited about 11 more weeks of eternal summer back in 01966.

I thought that some of you may enjoy a peek inside our week….

I don’t just like using my STOK Drum Charcoal Grill, I LOVE IT! It’s hard to explain but something about getting home, unwinding and creating magic on that bad boy that gives me so much pleasure.
Cooking with charcoal is so satisfying and the flavors just can’t be duplicated on a gas grill.
So I’ve got a bunch of teh inserts for TheSTOK Grill Insert System and I’ll be seeing how each one works.
First up is the vegetable grilling tray that sits right into the middle.
STOK™ Vegetable Tray Insert Model SIS2050 Purchase Here On Sale It cost $18.99 and is worth every penny especially when you consider how well it’s constructed.

Here’s the video review followed by some photos from last night’s grill session before we taped www.thehomiecast.com podcast

GLOSSY IBIS FLOCK IN MAGNOLIA

Glossy Ibis Gloucester Massachusetts ©Kim Smith 2015JPGThank you to the wonderful Anderson Family for sharing their Glossy Ibis sighting. After Chris’s super tip, I easily found them foraging in the fields several mornings in a row. I think there are anywhere between 20 to 30 members to the flock. They don’t allow you to get very close. Someone with a a 300-400mm lens may be able to take much better close ups. Nonetheless, they are fun to watch. I imagine since they are here at the end of June, the ibis may be nesting.

Dear Readers, If you see the Glossy Ibis, can you please share the time and day of your sighting. I understand from Mass Audubon that they rarely breed in our region and it would be exciting if we sighted a breeding pair. Thank you!

And thank you once again to the Andersons who this past year have supplied us with Snow Goose, Brant Geese, Snowy Owl, and now Glossy Ibis tips!!!

Karen works with colored clay using a process influenced by the Japanese technique, Neriage (nair ee ah ghee). She wedges color into porcelain clay. Then she takes these colors and puts them together in a block. She slices this and re-shapes again and again until she has a thin slab of patterned clay she can form into exquisite treasures including Hors d’oeuvre Platters, Saki Sets, Salt Cellars, and Whimsical Mini Teapots.

The end result is beautiful, playful and infinitely usable for visual pleasure, everyday meals and/or entertaining in style.
