Ivana Strong Bracelets

Hi Joey, my wife Amy and I are trying to raise some money for my best friend Daughter. Amy talked to her father Ed Collard and said you may help post this on your site?
Ivana is a 7 month old beautiful baby girl, daughter of Vinny and Giacqueline Parisi.  She has been at Children’s Hospital for just about a month with a weak heart.  Many people in the community have been praying for little Ivana and her family appreciates the thoughts and prayers.  In order to assist with Ivana’s care as well as support the Children’s Hospital, Ivana Strong bracelets have been created and are being sold for $5 each. Thursday night we attended Passports Sparkling Wine Dinner and it was out of this world delish. We Loved everything–the sparkling wine selections, especially the creamy Blanc de Blanc Brut Dargent from France–and each and everyone one of the dishes was fantastic. But if I had to choose a favorite of the favorites, I must say that Eric’s Oysters Rockefeller is sublime. Perhaps he’ll share his recipe–I am going to get right on that!

Oysters Rockefeller was created in 1899 by Jules Alcitore at the world renowned New Orleans restaurant Antoine’s. At that time there was a shortage of snails coming into America from Europe. Jules was looking for a substitute and he wanted the replacement to be local to avoid future problems in procuring the product.

My copy of Antoine’s cookbook does not include the recipe; to this day, it is still top secret.

The sesame encrusted diver scallops with jasmine rice was definitely an entree I’m inspired to try making at home.

Yummy beer, fancy cars, fantastic music, a phenomenal view, awesome people, the Bruins’ Bob Sweeney, the Mayor….and, well, me.  Just saying. Be forewarned that the beer vendors are packing up…but, the bar is still open for service.

Rumor has it, and it is still unconfirmed, that there may also be a fish coming in……

fish in foregroundSandy commented on my post yesterday https://goodmorninggloucester.wordpress.com/2015/07/24/weather-heading-into-smiths-cove/ asking if I had seen the big fish in the foreground of the first photo.  I hadn’t seen it and thought she was just imagining a fish until I blew up the photo and adjusted the exposure.  Indeed there is a big fish in the foreground of the photo.  It is a metal sculpture at the water’s edge in Kim and Linda’s yard where I was photographing, but I hadn’t noticed it because I was so focused on the incredible light on the boats in the distance.  Amazing observation Sandy!

Welcome Aboard the Lady Sea for an Afternoon of fun, friends, and dancing!

We set sail at promptly 1:00 PM and will sail about the shores of Cape Ann for some fun, music, and dancing to the mixes of DJ Scottie Mac. Upon return to the docks of the Cape Ann Marina and Resort be prepared to partake in a fun filled Brewfest, complete with Silent Auction, and the hopeful arrival of GIANT bluefin tuna from the tournament.

2015 Blackburn Challenge is a little Challenging

Exiting the Annisquam on an ebb tide so that current stacks up the north wind waves, that must have been fun. Then across the north side of Cape Ann which is usually the calm side, not so today. Here is the turn at Andrew’s Point and into Sandy Bay to surf downwind to Straitsmouth Gap. That sounds easier but those waves want to turn your boat sideways and dunk you. More photos to follow including a capsizing within yards of the rocks. No problem. Another racer stops to get the paddler back on board with seconds to spare.

Last Day of the 2015 Bluefin Blowout

If you haven’t been down to see the action at the Cape Ann’s Marina Resort, today is a great day for it!

To recap, Thursday night kicked off the event with a delicious Captain’s dinner thanks to Prezza and Ipswich Clambake.  Check here to see all of the other tremendous sponsors, such as the Platinum Presenting Sponsor Lyon-Waugh Auto Group, that helped make this year’s bluefin blowout possible… Bluefinblowout.com

Bob Sweeney and the Bruins Foundation, along with none other than Rene Rancourt and the Bruins’ Ice Girls, were present to help signify the opening of competition. Tournament founders, Drew Hale and Rob Bouley, discussed rules and regulations, gave thanks, and wished everyone good luck.

More than 40 boats took to the water in search of the somewhat illusive bluefin tuna and Friday afternoon came with the impressive Duck Soup from Pt. Judith, Rhode Island pulling into weigh-in with a beautiful 324-pounder.

Barefoot Wine and the Naked Grape helped make WINEFEST a great success and the Michael Troy band took the stage for live music into the evening.

Today brings BREWFEST thanks to Seaboard Products, more silent auction, hopefully some weighing of more bluefin tuna, the awards banquet, and live music with the Herland Brothers Band!

Cape Ann artist Wins Magnolia Art Show with Photography

Katherine Richmond, one of four artists exclusively featured at Zinc Gallery in Rocky Neck, recently won the grand prize of “Best in Show”. In addition, she received “Peoples choice award for Best in Show and Best in Photography” for her photograph ‘Hokusai’ pictured above. 

This is the only time a photograph has won over an oil painting, watercolor, mixed media, sculpture, and pastels in the 38-year history of the Magnolia Art Show held last week. “It’s a welcoming sign for Gloucester to award a fine art photograph, which has held to more traditional views of art for many years, to other talented local photographers,” said Richmond.

Richmond’s work also hangs at the prestigious 21st Members Juried Show at The Griffin Museum in Winchester now through August 30th.
