The Construction of A @SistaFelicia Mudiga Steak Sandwich Using The @STOKGrills Island Grill @CapeAnnFMkt

Sold Out Once Again- It was hilarious.  People walking by and get a whiff of the mudiga steaks on the grill and it’s like they were led by their nose to her spot.  If you’re cooking on nights like last night when you could go to The Cape Ann Farmer’s Market and get grub like this- You Crazy.

What’s Up, Cupcake?

I am admittedly not a cake fan, but I’ll take one of these little pieces of heaven from Rockin’ Cupcakes any day!

It has become our tradition to get 6 for each of our birthdays.  At any given time they probably 15 varieties of scrumptious cupcakes!

Make a point to stop in next time you’re walking around Bearskin Neck in Rockport….or, for the record, they are worth a special trip! Located conveniently near Top Dog, Roy Moore Lobster Co., The Blue Lobster Grille and many more awesome eateries, you really can’t go wrong.

Local High School Student Graduates from Sea Cadet Recruit Training

Gloucester resident receives top honor in Naval Sea Cadet Recruit Training

Elizabeth Schuster, age 14 of Gloucester, a member of the David G. Ouellet Division of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC), recently completed a two-week recruit training at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. At this training, Schuster joined over 200 other young women and men from across New England in completing a rigorous program, which is based on the U.S. Navy’s recruit training curriculum. Sea Cadet boot camp is designed for youth and instills teamwork, discipline and leadership skills in participants.

At the end of this challenging two-week training, Schuster was named Honor Graduate from her group of 40 peers. This award is extremely competitive and granted only to a cadet who displays top performance in several key areas, including leadership, teamwork, motivation and accountability.

During the two-week training, Schuster’s activities included swim qualifications, military drill, damage control, and physical training. “It was a very challenging two weeks, but I met so many great people from around the country and I learned a lot,” Schuster said. Schuster is the daughter of Michael and Heidi Schuster of Gloucester and granddaughter of Louis and Wendy McGrath of Gloucester and Robert and Helen Schuster of

Edinboro, PA.

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a federally chartered non-profit civilian youth organization for young people, ages 11 through 17 and is supported by both the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. Every year cadets participate in training opportunities such as Navy Special Warfare, SCUBA, field and medical training, photojournalism, military police science and sailing. The program teaches them how to successfully lead groups of their peers and will also inspire them to become leaders in their schools and communities.

The local Sea Cadet unit in Gloucester is currently accepting applications for the 2015-2016 school year. Gloucester Sea Cadets train at the U.S. Coast Guard station two Sundays a month, and also at The Village Training Field in Danvers, MA. For more information, please contact ENS Phillip Strauch at pstrauch@gloucesterseacadets.org or visit the program’s website at www.seacadets.org

FLEDGLING HOMIE RESCUE UNDERWAY AT SEVEN SEAS WHALE WATCH (EDITED)

UPDATE: HOMIE LEARNED TO FLY!

Seagull fledgling ©Kim Smith 2015Heather Dagle from 7 Seas Whale Watch reports that this sweet fledgling appeared several days ago after its nest, which was located at Fisherman’s Wharf, was destroyed in a recent storm. He/she has yet to learn how to fly however, its Mom stops by daily to feed it regurgitated food. After seeing how much the fledgling enjoyed splashing around in a bowl of water placed there by Heather and Kate, I dropped off a big galvanized tub. Heather promises to send a picture if he jumps in!

What to Do if You Find a Seal on the Beach

Good Morning Gloucester reader Anita sent along a photo of a young seal perched on the Annisquam. It reminded me to post my Seal PSA, which I think is a good idea to do annually, especially at this time of year when many young seals beach themselves. They are usually not injured or ill and only need to rest, or occasionally, to escape danger (think shark). Never approach a hauled out seal; simply leave it to recuperate and make its way back to the water in its own time.

Thanks so much Anita for submitting your photo!

Diane Blue Tonight! Dave Sag’s Blues Party 8:30pm @ The Rhumb Line 7.30.2015

dave-sag-bw

Dave says,

A major chunk of the Boston blues scene is gonna come crashing on your head this Thursday night, as I welcome back the Octomom® of the Blues: Ms. Diane Blue. The Divine Miss B has been busy and to show appreciation, she’s dragging in some of the top players around. The corpus delicti consists of Mr. Bobby Gus, glitar wunderkind and general ding dong daddy, Mr. Joe Bargar keyboard arachnid and swelling reducer, and the fabulous Mr. Steve Bankuti, algorhythmist, on the skins. This is a dangerous band. I’m wearing my truss. Ask your doctor if the blues Bash is right for you.

Drumming at Trefrey Park

mamadou and henry

The usual drumming class with Mamadou takes place at the Rocky Neck Cultural Center on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 (all are welcome).  This Tuesday the weather was so beautiful, they decided to move to Trefrey Park.  They sounded great and people stopped to listen and watch, including my mother and I.  Henry the dog was so moved by the sound that he flipped on his back and pawed the air to the beat of the drums.  It was hysterical how well he kept to the beat and truly enjoyed himself.
