Joe created the shell urns flanking the altar. He found the urn on the right washed ashore on the beach.

The Brass Monkey had a grand opening on Monday, June 13, 2016. They are located at 85 Main Street, Gloucester, MA 01930. Fun place to shop.
I wish I had gotten a photo of the rough hewn board this beautiful finished piece of work started from. Larry DahlmerĀ created the keel in two pieces–the one shown will go in theĀ stern of Old Pung. In the first photo, you can see him underneath the boat preparing to install it. I found it amazing that Larry does all this work wearing open sandals.

I haveĀ always been fascinated by this sign out on Route 128 (really now 95) in Wakefield. I grew up poor on the wrong Cape so never made itĀ to Pleasure Island but the exit sign beckons. DrivingĀ to work fantasizing about what I would doĀ on my Pleasure Island.Ā šĀ Finally turned in last week and it was no Twilight Zone episode. I was not transported back in time. I couldn’t even find “Pleasure Island Road”.
But this Sunday morning I can find out. The Friends of Pleasure Island will have a walking tour of the Island no more. Take that exit 42 (bring your towel of course), and pull into the Edgewater Office Park and park in the first lot on the left. 10AM. Rubber Duck will be on a leash.
If you have ever seen the Schooner Adventure out in the harbor and wished you were aboard, now is your chance. I serve as volunteer crew and I can tell you there is nothing like the feeling when the wind fills the sails and she surges ahead. Sailing aboard Gloucesterās fully restored 122-foot National Landmark is an experience you wonāt forget. Every Wednesday Adventure goes out from 4 to 7 with a deck load of her members. You can join for as little as $10 a month (seniors, veterans and students even less). With membership comes two tickets, and any others youād care to buy are half price. All the details are on the website as well as a list of all the other opportunities to sail this season, or call the office at 978 281 8079.

Well, it’s actually A LOT bigger than GMG. Ā The New York Times just reported the following:
The two-to-one decision from a three-judge panel at the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on Tuesday came in a case about rules applying to a doctrine known as net neutrality, which prohibit broadband companies from blocking or slowing the delivery of internet content to consumers.
For us, here in Gloucester, it means that Comcast can’t intentionally slow down your streaming of a Netflix movie or a GMG video and it can’t block a GMG post — not even this one!
It’s a big win for GMG and everyone who uses the Internet … but, as you might expect, the fight isn’t over.

Here’s a map of the Gloucester hotels, motels,Ā resorts, bed and breakfastĀ and you name it lodging that I whipped up in 2014 when I was serving on the tourism commission.Ā I was curious where all these places were in relation to downtown. Laura Dow of Vista Motel and Laura Baker of Castle Manor Inn booked very full dance cards for us: two days of back-to- back lodging tours (any that signed up), speed dating style. Conclusion: there are great places to stayĀ to suit anybody’s needs andĀ preferences. I included some that we did not see.
This year, I added Beauport Hotel — which can handle a 400 person conference capacity!
Other news this year: Vista Motel has a new pool; Cape Ann Marina Resort initiated Boatsetter (‘Uber on the water’) and… send in updatesĀ and I’ll add it to the post.
Cape Ann SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard ) is right in there by Beauport and Long Beach for visiting guests.

We mentioned the other day on the most recent podcast (from the gorgeous new Beauport Hotel) that a new restaurant is coming to Rockport.
The Feather & Wedge Restaurant and Bar (happy dance) is scheduled to open sometime this summer. Ā I honestly don’t know a thing about it. Ā Who can fill us in? Ā I’d love to know more!

The Gloucester Lodge of Elks will host its annual Flag Retirement and Flag Day Ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 14th.
The Flag Retirement will be held at 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Elks Lodge at 101 Atlantic Road in Gloucester. The Gloucester High School JROTC, the Gloucester Sea Cadets, and the Boy and Girl Scouts will participate in the ceremony.
The Elks Flag Day Ceremony will be held immediately following the Flag Retirement in the Lodge function hall. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony. Anyone having a flag in need of retirement can drop them off at the lodge or bring them to the ceremony.
Friday and Saturday, June 24 and 25 | Tickets are $25 per person
Rockport in Bloom, the 2016 Garden Tour sponsored by the Rockport Garden Club, will
take place on Friday and Saturday, June 24 and 25.This is a 6.5 mile self-guided tour of
10 gardens in the town of Rockport from Pigeon Cove to the South End. Tickets are $25
and are good for both days. Tickets may be purchased at Toad Hall Bookstore in
Rockport, during business hours, or at the Rockport Police Station on the days of the
tour. Any tickets purchased online may be picked up at the Police Station on the 24th
and 25th. All proceeds from the tour go to support the Rockport Garden Clubās many
civic projects including the design and maintenance of 12 town gardens. Please visit the
