Sunshine and Spring Training

I’ve been a little m.i.a. from the blog these past few weeks but I’ve been enjoying some downtime in Arizona visiting my oldest daughter who moved out there last August.   We had some fun exploring the Sedona area and Grand Canyon, but my husband was in his glory sitting in the stands of his first Spring Training game with the Cactus League in Phoenix.   Great day watching the Cubs vs Diamondbacks in the warm Arizona sunshine!

#myunicoexperience @unico2087

Where every attention to detail was paid, where there were no corners cut-there’s @unico2087 Incredible. Easily the nicest hotel I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to some pretty great ones. Unico just opened last year so it uses the latest materials and styling while still paying homage to the area in which it’s built. So refined, so sexy, so chic. I keep coming back to “sophisticated”. My beautiful Kate works for the company that built and operates this hotel and she loves the team she works with, telling me every day how much she loves her job.

SNOWY OWL HEDWIG MESSY-FACED GIRL -By Kim Smith

Our winter resident Snowy Owl Hedwig finds plenty to eat along the backshore. Prior to taking off to hunt in the early evening we see her swivel her head and look out to sea, and then swivel around to scan the golf course. We wonder, is she thinking “Shall I have duck for dinner, or shall I have rabbit?” Here she is yesterday morning, face covered in schmutz, a happy sign to see.

ATLANTIC OCEAN WAVE WATCHING -EXPLODERS, BANGERS, ROLLERS, CRASHERS, AND SONIC BOOMERS – #GLOUCESTEMA #ROCKPORTMA MARCH NOR’ESTER STORM RILEY -By Kim Smith

The best wave watching Sunday afternoon was from Atlantic Road, especially when the light turned silver-gray-violet. The mist from the pounding waves filled the air, creating a beautiful diffused quality. It was mesmerizing to see the waves hurling against the rocky coastline. Often the force was so loud, it sounded like a sonic boom had exploded. Atlantic Road was closed to car traffic while pedestrians strolled the road as though a promenade. After watching the full force of the waves during high tide, I headed over to Straitsmouth Island in Rockport. Less in strength, but still spectacular to watch.

TO THE PERSON WALKING HER DOG IN THE DUNES AT GOOD HARBOR BEACH THIS MORNING GIVING ME DIRTY LOOKS

While photographing and filming at Good Harbor Beach this morning, a woman walking in the dunes with her dog off leash was giving me super dirty looks, while she was ignoring the guidelines. As if the dunes aren’t already in enough trouble from the recent storm.

Thanks to Pier 23 and Next Generation Cape Ann!

I was fortunate to be able to attend the Next Generation Cape Ann’s Young Professionals Event at Pier 23 last night.  Much thanks to the Markos family for opening Pier 23’s doors (on Nick’s birthday nonetheless) to this crowd of young and passionate Cape Ann enthusiasts.  It was a wonderful opportunity to network and meet likeminded young professionals who were eager to share their ideas, careers, passions, and goals for Cape Ann. I was happy to be there as both a contributor to Good Morning Gloucester and the Direction of Communication for Harborlight Montessori.  I enjoyed a night out with friends and definitely met some contacts whom I look forward to contacting in the near future.

I look forward to Next Generation Cape Ann’s next gathering and will surely keep you all in the loop.

Aging Gracefully

“Weathered” is a descriptive term I would rather not be used on me, BUT for a wide variety of other aged relics, it is perfect. Weathered beauty:

Not all beautiful weathered paraphernalia is rusted iron or red, however.  I will post others in the future.  May we all weather as well as these.
