Driving around the back shore in Gloucester there are so many incredible views of our gorgeous town, this scene is no different. As I approached the Beacon Marine the light was changing fast I knew there wasn’t much time so I quickly pulled over and grabbed gear and set up through the railings just in time,

Slim pickings for this month’s a-door-nment.  Frankly, it surprised me to find so few green shamrocks and leprechauns around town, but there’s been this matter of storm cleanup followed by storm cleanup followed by storm.  Happy St. Patrick’s Day to ye.

Learn calligraphy basics in a morning class with specialist Albina Papows. Inspired by the special exhibition Unfolding Histories: Cape Ann before 1900. Write your name, use calligraphy tools and leave with a sampler to take home. This family workshop is recommended for children 7 and up with an adult. Registration required. free Teacher workshop at Cape Ann Museum with support from Essex Heritage | “Unfolding Histories” exhibition opens March 31!

Exciting news from Cape Ann Museum:

March 2018

Teachers throughout Essex County are invited to Cape Ann Museum to study Unfolding Histories: Cape Ann Before 1900, the first major exhibition to bring together historical and archival material from nine Cape Ann institutions focused on life during Cape Ann’s early years, including stories which illuminate the Native American and European contact period, the Revolutionary War, and 19th century history and culture.

Teachers who attend the April 7th Teacher Workshop will discover strategies to increase student literacy with primary source documents using an inquiry-based learning model to tie larger themes to our local area. Designed for K–12 teachers currently working in public & private schools throughout Essex County, this free workshop is a way to earn 10 PDPs for attending the session and creating an activity plan, with additional opportunities to earn more. The Unfolding Histories exhibit will be on view March 31, 2018- September 9, 2018. Massachusetts Teacher Association members are admitted free!

Gloucester’s own….Meghan Colby of Cape Ann Sharks Special Olympics (YMCA North Shore)  has been selected as one of four athletes for Swim Team Massachusetts at the Special Olympics USA National Games

downloadThe Special Olympics USA National Games (www.specialolympicsusagames.org) will take place July 1-6, 2018 in Seattle Washington. Venues will include the University of Washington, Celebration Park, Pacific University Seattle University, King County Aquatic Center and many more. We are proud to be sending a delegation of 50 athletes and unified partner in honor of the 50 th anniversary of Special Olympic movement as coaches and staff to represent
Massachusetts.
The National Games will feature nearly 3,500 athletes competing in 14 Olympic-style sports, with the support of 1,000 coaches, 8,000 volunteers and an estimated 50,000 family, friends and spectators. Non-competitive special events will include the Final Leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run™ that will symbolize the start of the competition and Healthy Athletes, a place where the athletes can get vital health screenings. Youth and education events will also be held in conjunction with the Games as young leaders rally around making change for the better of the Special Olympics movement and promoting acceptance of those with intellectual disabilities.
The 2018 Games will bring an estimated 80,000 people to the greater Seattle area. It is projected, based upon past Special Olympics Games, that hotel room nights, dining, shopping, car rentals, tourism and more could reach $50 million during the week of the Games.
As you can imagine, the cost to cover clothing, housing, dining, medical, public safety, and transportation for this amount of individuals is astronomical. Please support Gloucester’s Meghan Colby as she represents Cape Ann proudly at USA Games- Seattle in July. Click here to donate!

Unwrap, trim excess fat, Pat down with paper towel, generously apply coarse black pepper, smoke between 225-275 til it hits 190 internal.

Couldn’t be easier.
