Reader Robert Millman sent photos and wrote the following question:
I am new to Gloucester, having bought a home two years ago.
As we were clearing some down trees and brush, we came upon a small stand on what I think are Monotropa, related to Indian Pipes, but do not look like any other pictures I have found. Corliss and another local nursery were not able to provide anything further information.
Can you ask your readers or do you have any suggestions of who I could reach out to?
Thank you
Hello Robert,

The stems of Sporchia (Orbanche crenata), a species parasitic on the fava bean, are gathered and eaten in the region of Apilia, in southern Italy. Image courtesy wikicommons media.

When the bridge goes up, just breath and take a look at the view.

Thursday at the Rhumb Line: Portsmouth Blues Avatar Mr. Jon Ross blows into town for a summit with his old buddy Dave Sag. He’s been here many times before but always under the radar. Do not be swayed by clever imitations; Jon is the real deal! Backing him up will be my old friend and self-medication expert: Mr. Paul Foss. Traveling down all the way from Bangor Maine, this keyboard whiz will have you unzipping your L.L.Bean mukluks and shakin’ your tootsies! Drums provided by former Mohawk and balanced pistons: Mr. Chris Anzelone. Don’t miss it!

Exciting news! The Boston Cannons Major League Lacrosse is coming to Endicott College this weekend and again on Saturday, June 23rd as part of their newly launched “Cannons in Your Community” effort.
The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced that the club has created a new initiative to bring select regular season home games to two greater Boston communities in 2018. The Cannons will play one game at Hingham High School in Hingham, MA, and two games at Endicott College in Beverly, MA. The “Cannons In Your Community” effort is focused on strengthening the team’s community outreach and increasing direct engagement with greater Boston area lacrosse fans.
“We’re extremely excited to bring Cannons lacrosse to the communities of the South Shore and North Shore, both are very passionate about the sport,” said Cannons President Ian Frenette. “While our game continues to grow at a significant pace, we need to continue to do our part to drive the continued growth and engagement with current and prospective lacrosse fans in their towns. This initiative is going to give fans an even closer look at Cannons action in an intimate environment and provide us the opportunity to reach new fans by bringing the game to their neighborhood.”
