Update MAGNOLIA Porchfest: It is on

It’s on!! It may be cool and cloudy, but Porchfest is happening!
Not the spontaneous type? That’s okay. You can learn about the musicians performing on the porches by visiting magnolialibrary.org/porchfest-2025 or you can stop in the library for a map. Remember, the music starts at 4 and keeps going til 8. Don’t forget to bring $$ for tipping the great musicians who are donating their talent and drop some coin in the Library donation bins to keep porchfest happening. See you there!

Lovely Dinner at 51 Rocky Neck

We took the opportunity on a nice day recently to stop by 51 Rocky Neck for dinner. We were very pleased with the level of service and quality of the food and drink. It’s a nice little respite on Rocky Neck and the atmosphere is open and friendly. I tried the short rib appetizer (highly recommended even as a meal) and a chopped salad. Jim had a lobster bake. It was all done to perfection….but, oh!….those ribs……outstanding. We’ll be back soon!

Happy Friday Cape Ann 🥯🥯🥯❤️❤️❤️!!!

GEF released its FY25 Impact Report today, “In Their Hands: The Power of Experiential Learning”. This colorful report highlights 30 hands-on programs led by talented Gloucester educators who go above and beyond to help students learn by doing. Magnolia Porch Fest 2025

Reblogged from Magnolia Library and Community Center

Four different weather apps say Saturday morning showers dry up in the afternoon. But stand by. We’ll make an official call tomorrow. Please understand that with 20 host locations and 50 musicians, coordinating a rain date is just not possible – and we’d be just as disappointed as you! But right now, on a sunny Thursday we’re still warming up for another great Porchfest! 🤞🙏🤞🙏

Lobsta Land Osprey Eggs Hatched!

As of this writing, 2 of the 3 eggs from Annie and Squam’s nest near Lobsta Land have just hatched! It’s very likely the third will have hatched by the time you read this. You can follow along yourself at the Essex Greenbelt Osprey Cam. Thank you David Rimmer and Essex Greenbelt for the privilege of following this pair and their offspring every year! When I tuned in yesterday, one parent (Annie I think) was watching from nearby as the 2 babies bopped around in the nest by themselves. She soon returned and settled in. I’m sure a meal is on its way shortly. Enjoy the screenshots.

Help Fund Ocean Explorers

 ~ MICHAELDEKOSTER

For the past 21 years, Maritime Gloucester’s Ocean Explorers program has brought marine science education to every 3rd, 4th, & 5th grader in the Gloucester Public Schools. We visit the classrooms in all 4 elementary schools and welcome these students to our campus to participate in exciting hands-on experiential learning in our Sea Pocket Aquarium, the Marine Science Education Center, onboard the Schooner Ardelle and so much more. Over the course of the school year, your kids interact with our educators a total of 6 times, offering invaluable access to the harbor, bridging a unique connection with our local youth in our own blue backyard. 21 years participating in our curriculum equates to the educational engagement of over 13,500 students!

As we mark this year’s final 5th grade graduation celebration, we want to emphasize the importance of this program in our schools and we urge you to consider supporting its continuation. Maritime Gloucester annually raises the funds to sustain Ocean Explorers as our gift to the community, but we now are urgently seeking funding to keep this program alive for elementary students across Cape Ann and beyond. To support Ocean Explorers into 2026 and help us keep this essential program going at no cost to the Gloucester Public Schools, please Donate Today: MaritimeGloucester.org/give-1
