10:00 am
ANNISQUAM VILLAGE CHURCH
820 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA

All are Welcome!
The Annisquam Village Church has completed several month of extensive work in the sanctuary. The beautiful arched windows have been restored, the floor refinished and new carpet installed plus additional work on the pews, walls and other areas.

The first day back in the renovated sanctuary will be a festive day.

ó We welcome back Rev. Deirdre Greenwood-White as our preacher. Rev. Deirdre’s vision and leadership was instrumental in the success of the Preservation Campaign.
ó We will rededicate the sanctuary for it’s continued use as a gathering place for worship and life passages and as a center for community events and celebrations.
ó We will help celebrate the 65th wedding anniversary of one of our former pastors, Rev. John Elder and his wife Anne.
Please join the Church in this Celebration of its commitment to the Cape Ann  Community ans beyond.

ACTION Inc 54th Annual Meeting

Professional photographs and a new video will be coming soon from this morning’s Action Inc Annual Meeting celebrating staff and mission. Until then here are a few snapshots. Congratulations to Adam Farber, owner of Mark Adrian Shoes in Gloucester, who received the Community Recognition Award;  Lindy Aiello and Dominique Spinola for Merit Awards; and invited guest speaker, Evan Moses, for his inspiring talk.

Don’t ban helium ballons. Just don’t buy them.

Wrong tide, wrong wind but I wanted some mackerel for my smoker so I’m whipping a little silver dude into the wind and a helium ballon floats by. There is a swirl behind it so I cast behind it and sure enough a small striped bass too dumb to know better is trying to eat the streamer. I reel her in and put her back in the water and chased down the balloon that went up on the rocks a hundred yards downwind.

So this is my public service announcement. We don’t have to ban these things, just don’t buy them.

Don’t be a bad dad. If you want to be bad, pop these things in the checkout line at Market Basket. I will bail you out. Promise.

If you impulse buy one in the Market Basket checkout because you forgot your daughter’s birthday, stop. You are a bad dad. Don’t make it worse. Buy a box of oreos instead.

Last year’s haul. They last forever. Every tiny bit looks like food to a fish.

Summer Rates Heating Up

prattbrandon's avatarCape Ann Home

We have finally got some warm weather to compliment the hot real estate market that has been occurring this spring.  The question earlier this year was, what are rates going to do and how was that going to influence the housing market???

You will notice from the above graphic, that in May 2018 rates were close to 4.5% and moving up to almost 5% at year-end 2018.  January 2019 the rates dropped, and then in March, they really dropped and where they stay today…the low 4’s.  The reason this is happening is because, as I wrote in March, the Fed decided to keep rates unchanged for the most part in 2019. The markets reacted favorably to this news, and rates began to settle down.  Because there is no talk of future rate hikes, and with uncertainty in the trade and tariff markets, mortgage rates have benefited.  And you can too!

GHS Staff Golf Tournament 5/24/2019

On Friday May 24th 53 golfers braved the cold windy afternoon for a good cause, to play in the 7th Annual GHS Golf Tournament. Starting at 3pm at Cape Ann Golf Course the participants competed for the highly coveted GHS Golf Trophy. It was a great event which raised money for the Gloucester High School Sunshine Fund.

A big thank you to the Cape Ann Savings Bank for their continued support in our event with the generous donation to help make t-shirts.
A second big thank you to Pete Sutera for making this year’s t-shirts. You can find him on Instagram at: psutescustomvinyl.

A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E HOURS OLD PIPING PLOVER CHICKS!

These sweet Piping Plover chicks are only hours old. All four are healthy, vigorous, and already feeding themselves and stretching their wing buds. They sure were giving their Mom and Dad reason to panic as they ran hither and thither, not yet understanding the adults piping voice commands. A dog ran through the nesting area and a pair of Crows added to the parent’s stress. After both parents briefly left the chicks to distract the dog and give chase to the Crows, calmness was restored and three snuggled under Mom while the fourth kept dad on the run.

*Note–I have been following and filming half a dozen PiPl nests around the state and just to be clear in case of any confusion, these are not our Good Harbor Beach PiPls 🙂

There have been quite a few PiPl chicks hatching around New England beaches. The cool, overcast weather will benefit the hatchlings tremendously. The beaches are relatively quieter, with fewer people, dogs, and trash that attracts avian predators, which will help allow the babies to reach that critical one week old age.
