Weekend Brunch at Oliver’s Harbor

Did you know Oliver’s Harbor on Main Street serves breakfast and brunch on the weekends? We went last week for brunch and it was superb. Jim had an omelet and I had the Belgian waffle. The two waffles were topped with very fresh fruit and whipped cream. Oh, it was good! Highly recommended if you want something a little special for your weekend breakfast. 8 AM to noon Saturday and Sunday.

Lobsters Starting At $4.50- Come Down To Captain Joe & Sons To Buy Your Lobsters and Witness The Glory of Beautiful #GloucesterMA Harbor

Joey Ciaramitaro's avatarCaptain Joe and Sons Wholesale Lobster Company

Listen we know you have choices.  The way I see it you can go battle the insanity at overcrowded supermarkets that probably bought and stored lobsters that were caught last fall in some warehouse space where the lobsters are peeing in the same tanks they are living in for months ORRRRRRRR you could come down to our dock and buy right from the docks were we offload ONLY locally caught lobsters (NEVER CANADIAN) and everything gets turned over daily.  More often than not you’r going home with lobsters that were landed hours if not minutes before they go into your bag.

The choice is yours.  You either love your local lobstermen and want to see them survive or you’d rather support some overseas owned conglomerate corporate chain that could care less about our guys (insert frowny face here).

Prices starting at $4.50lb

American Legion Post #98 / Rockport Fundraiser

I’m getting back into my artwork now that I’ve retired from nursing after 43 years.  I’m doing a fundraiser for the vets and James and Anna of Cape Ann Giclée are helping me with printing.
EssentialPigeonCovePoster.jpg
Every summer (with the exception of this one) the Legion in Rockport hosts vets for a fishing trip/ social event. I spoke with Larry Story, the vet who organizes the event and he said that lobstermen from Rockport and Gloucester donate their time for the outing.  I asked him about contributing to the cause with a poster I made from a painting of mine. As I mentioned James and Anna are doing the printing when I get orders.  The unframed poster is 11 x  14 inches and retails for $20.00.  All profits go to the Legion.
I live near the Pigeon Cove harbor and have gotten to see the workings of the waterfront since I’ve stopped working as a nurse and since COVID has pretty much curtailed my normal activities.  What I’ve learned is that the lobster industry is a very complicated and dangerous business and the work never stops as you know! I really admire what the guys are doing down here because it’s really a rare and treasured industry in Rockport.  We don’t have much tourism and the granite industry is long gone. And they’ve been working right through COVID as I’m sure the guys over in Gloucester are doing.

Lanesville Quarries and Access Trails to Temporarily Close –Closure to begin Monday, June 29 until further notice

gloucesterlogo2

GLOUCESTER, MA – Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken today announced the temporary closure of the Lanesville quarries (Vernon’s, Nelson’s, and Klondike Reservoir) and access trails.  The closure comes due to a significant increase in visitors as well as public safety concerns and it will begin on Monday, June 29 and remain in effect until further notice.

Mayor Romeo Theken said, “There has been a higher than usual amount of activity at our quarries so far this year. I’m angry and saddened at how that area has been mistreated.  This temporary closure is to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors as we develop short and long-term plans to address these concerns so the quarries can be safely and respectfully used.”

Despite increased support efforts by Gloucester police and public works officials, residents have expressed concern and frustration with large crowds, vandalism, litter, and fires.  Recently, residents counted and photographed six fire pits that were still hot on a recent Sunday morning as well as piles of trash, bottles, cans, containers, and filth.

Ward 4 City Councilor Val Gilman said, “I appreciate my Lanesville neighbors and watch groups and commend their hard work and dedication on the clean-up efforts of our quarries and access trails.  Neighborhood safety remains our primary concern.  We look forward to working with Mayor Romeo Theken on next steps.”

Signage and regular patrols will remind the community of the closures.  Police will continue to educate and push for compliance by the public.  Individuals who choose to enter the trails or the quarries during this closure could face trespassing charges or, per the Gloucester Code of Ordinances, fines up to $300 for littering.

Police Chief Ed Conley said, “There has been a surge of quarry activity complaints this year elevating our concern. We will continue to actively patrol the quarry areas educating people about the closure and asking them to leave. Anyone that persists may be subject to fines and criminal trespass charges.”

Residents should not hesitate to call the Police Department at 978-283-1212, to report suspicious activity or a non-emergency issue or the Fire Department at 978-281-9760 to report brush fires, fires on public property, or fireworks.  In the event of an emergency, please always call 911.
