YOUTH ACTING WORKSHOPS MOVE ONLINE FOR SUMMER 2020 SESSION! ACCEPTING STUDENTS NOW! Virtual Classes begin July 6!

Gloucester Stage Education Director Heidi Dallin recently announced the Youth Acting Workshop classes and productions will move online for Summer 2020. Dallin announced that the professional theater training program will offer a full slate of Virtual theater classes for ages 6-18 as well as the first ever Summer YAW production featuring an entire cast of teen actors to be rehearsed and performed over zoom and streamed in August.   Although GSC won’t be able to have students in the theatre this summer, classes will still be held online for 2 hours a week.  YAW is embracing this new format by incorporating an acting for the screen workshop for all age groups in this summer session! The Summer session begins on July 6 and runs thru August 13.  Sessions will be recorded in case a student can’t make a lesson, or wants to go back and watch it again.

Each age group of students will work on a variety of projects with Education Director and Award winning actress Heidi Dallin, a Gloucester native and Harvard University graduate, and a variety of guest artists including  Hollywood director and editor Rick Blue; Academy Award nominated actress Lindsay Crouse, award winning director Benny Sato Ambush, singer and musician Marion Wolter, playwright Tyler Dwiggins and GSC Education Apprentices from previous seasons.

The Youth Acting Workshop is a professional theater training program for ages 6 to 18 designed to provide young people with an outlet to nurture their creative potential through developing self-confidence, communication and teamwork skills to use in their daily life as well as introducing them to the skills necessary for professional theater. The workshops include an introduction to theater basics such as acting techniques, theater games, improvisation, vocal and physical expression, character preparation, scene study, storytelling, writing, public speaking and confidence building.

Engaging our young actors with online instruction, creative imagination projections, theater games, and outdoor activities. Includes moments to share and interact with the class and culminates in a group musical video presentation.
Taking advantage of the high quality cameras we hold in our hands each day, and using fun resources available to take our self-video (self-vi?) to the next level. Apply acting skills to TikTok video challenges and creating and laughing together.

Even though everybody on the planet is just a text away, getting your message across has never been more complicated. subText is a hilarious series of vignettes detailing the awkwardness of high-school dating in the digital age. Will culminate in a zoom performance in August.

Smoked Chuck Roast Queso On The Ivory @WeberGrills Mastertouch

Joey Ciaramitaro's avatarNortheast BBQ

Smoked Chuck Roast Queso. I’ve seen plenty of smoked Queso recipes and they all look good. Here’s what I did that I think puts it over the top: when smoking the chuck roast I put a foil pan under the roast with a small can of beef broth in it. It does two things. It keeps moisture in the kettle helping the chuck not dry out, it also collects the drippings. I save that and pour about a cup of the drippings into the Queso. The charred and roasted jalapeño along with the drippings give this Queso an incredible smoky richness that is incredible.

Staycation at the Cape Ann Motor Inn

We have been missing little getaways like crazy. Between family vacations, girls’ weekends, quick overnights with Freddy and friends, hockey tournaments, the boys’ sailing regattas, etc. we almost always have a little trip to look forward to. So, as the warm weather came and the Cape Ann Motor Inn was able to open their doors we were super excited to book some rooms at their perfect little beach front location…. just a few miles away from home. With lots of extra precautions in place the hotel staff did a great job of making us feel welcome and safe.

We stayed Tuesday and Wednesday night.  Several people have asked if there is a restaurant on site and, while there isn’t, they do often have food trucks that stay in their lot right next to the Paddle Board rentals from Cape Ann SUP.   The Cow breakfast truck was ready for our orders both mornings!  Because several of the rooms have kitchenettes we were able to pack salads, sandwich fixings, fruit, PBJ, etc for lunch….and coolers full of beverages.  On Tuesday night we cooked our own lobsters right on the beach and surprised the kids with a visit from How We Roll Coast 2 Coast rolled ice cream. Wednesday evening we simply ordered take out from Surfside Subs….which is conveniently located within easy walking distance and happens to be attached to the Long Beach Dairy Maid (win!).

If you want to wake up on the beach…this is the place for you.  The rates are very affordable for a beachfront hotel…and each room has a sliding glass door and access to the outside deck and stairs that lead easily to the beach.  While Long Beach is, well, long…hotel guests can enjoy knowing that the beach right in front of the hotel is for guests only…hence eliminating any fear of large crowds.  While all rooms have recently been equipped with nice free standing air conditioning units, there is nothing better than turning them off, opening your sliding door, and listening to the surf while looking across to Thacher’s Island and its Twin Lights.

We had a perfect two days.  The ease and convenience was matched by the beauty and relaxation.  Cape Ann Motor Inn welcomes families from near and far who return year after year to enjoy their beach vacations, but they also love hosting local families who simply want to feel like they’ve been transported to a little slice of heaven.

The staff was friendly and welcoming and were actively cleaning and maintaining the property quietly throughout our stay.  New carpets were even being installed in several rooms the morning we arrived.

I can’t lie, it felt great to be sitting on the beach all day and night. You should try it.

Dinner on Lexington Ave

We decided to go right down the street to the 525 Tavern on Lexington Ave in Magnolia for dinner and drinks over the weekend (my first lemon drop in a while!) It has that comfortable neighborhood feel and we could watch the world go by in central Magnolia! Jim had steak tips and we ordered a pizza. It was very relaxed, service nicely paced, safety precautions obvious.
