My View of Life on the Dock
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I would love for Gloucester to have an outdoor skating rink each winter. I spent some time up at MarketStreet for a school event last night and everyone enjoyed the rink so much.

We had a lovely dinner at Oliver’s Harbor on Main Street recently following an afternoon of shopping and errands. It was a welcome respite. Always friendly (thank you Jeovanna), always delicious! We tried the turkey meatball appetizer, the squash ravioli and the burger! I find the fries especially good. It had been a while between visits, but we’ll be back sooner next time.

Crescente…

So many were touched by the beautiful piece Bo Abrams wrote last week in memory of Gloucester’s beloved Jim Dowd and his brother, Johnny. In it, she shares what a difference mentors and caring adults made in Jim’s life, and how painful it was for him that they were missing from Johnny’s:
Jim talked a lot about all the people who mentored him along the way from the time he was about 12. It wasn’t any one person. But it was one person at time, one interest at a time, one program at a time, that helped him survive to get to the next thing. Someone to give a nudge to stick with it when something was hard. The Grinch visited Cape Ann Youth Hockey’s next generation of hockey players during the Learn-to-Skate program this past weekend…..and, no doubt, his heart grew three sizes that day. The Learn-to-Skate program is pretty special….thanks to some really fantastic volunteers. Each year a dedicated group of coaches take to the ice to help the area’s newest skaters gain confidence, develop skill…..and have fun! Much thanks to Kristin Michel for sending along these photos from Dawn Enos….and for her unwavering commitment to Cape Ann Youth Hockey and Learn-to-Skate.

This eagle appears to be wintering in Gloucester as we have seen it several times in the area of Stage Fort Park, often flying over the harbor and swooping down for food. I am assuming it is the same eagle though it easily could be a pair following similar patterns. Thanks to FOB Susan LaRosa for giving me the heads up yesterday that it was hanging out for me to find.
